I am a huge fan of CF, but I've never had in a knife handle. Can someone post pic comparisons, and discoss the differences? Thanks

an additional question, if one wanted to make a knife peelpry is there a way to dissolve the lacquer coating without damaging the underlying carbon fiber itself. Expert advice only:p

I don't really have any good pictures to share but regular carbon fiber is as smooth as SS knives while the peel ply CF IMO is even rougher than the G-10 that Spyderco uses.

I believe it is rougher simply due to finishing (media blasting)?

CF can be blasted harder or longer, removing more of the binder.

Theory, anyway.

"Peel ply"
Is a fabric that gets peeled off the exposed surface after the composite is set and hardened, leaving an impression (texture). G10 is done so, also.

Trihonda, as others here have stated, CF can be finished in a virtually unlimited number of ways. Very rough, glass smooth or a wide variety of finishs in between. Everyone's requirements are different. Some need a knife that will not slip under any conditions. Others want some stunning finish (look at the CF insert in the Spyker!) where the fact that it's slippery under every condition matters much less. I put myself in the latter class and would love to see Sal issue a Caly III style knife finished completely in the Spyker style CF. I think it would be an awsome handle but those who need to dress critters in the rain would have no use for it. CF is my absolute favorite handle material and I'll likey own anything Sal does in it.

Druid - I doubt anything "normal" would have any impact either CF or G10 but I'm dieing to know what you're thinking of doing??? The needs and creativity of folks around here never cease to amaze me.
