Ok,

Love the knife, great, great value!

But......

I was sharpening my new BK-7 last night and I noticed that the grind is well off center. I used marker on the blade and I noticed that on the curve near the tip I was not taking any ink off of one side of the blade.....

I looked at my BK-1 and it is the same way.

Is this normal for the Beckers? Do I just need to get after it with the stones? How did your look when you got it?

BTW, the knife was very sharp out of the box.

Please let me know what to do....

Thanks,

these are hand sharpened knives on a big wheel.

because of this, the sharpening bevels will never be 100% symmetrical.

On working knives like the Beckers, as opposed to fancy knives, I don't worry about the grinds being perfect or stuff like that. I'm happy that the Becker knives are of high quality materials and workmanship at a good low price. Beckers for everybody! I can easily live with some minor variations in grinds on working knives. And, if I have some small, or even some not-so-small, changes to be made in the grind of a knife like a Becker, I'll fix it myself. But, not everybody is into this sort of thing.

Thin out the one side until it matches, or raise the sharpening angle and make both just as obtuse. The latter method is much faster, but could cause a large drop in cutting ability depending on just how uneven the grind is from one side to the other.
