I am looking at the two knives, but i cant handle them to find out which one I want. Would I be better to go with the CC version of the SMF or should I just get the regular?

Also, how is the toughness between the two differ? I could see the CC version not being as tough as the normal SMF. Give me your ideas! thanks!

How do you plan to carry it? I had a regular SMF and didn’t like the size. I prefer the SNG.

Yes, i plan edc for a while. I figured the SMF would have more cutting egde instead of the SNG. I had a buck strider at one point and when I had it, i did not think it had enough cutting edge for its size.

CC it's a lot better IMHO

Ruff Cobb should be here shortly with is thoughts on his CC SMF :D

Post up you lurker :p

The SnG is big for carry by some, an SMF even bigger. The choil does use up some edge length, but in all the time I've carried my SnG, I haven't lacked. It's really a control thing with most materials, which run thin to begin with, like cardboard, rope, webbing, etc.

About all the extra edge length would get me is a single cut on summer sausage instead of two, in which case a fixed blade is better, as all mine run 6" or more.

It's all about what you will do with it, and how.

I liked the SMF CC better, but carried the SnG CC more. The SnG has a more acceptable weight for EDC and better slicing performance because of its thinner blade, but the actual cutting length does suck on both.

As far as strength goes, don't worry about it. Those things are overbuilt anyways. If you do manage to break it, you can bet you were abusing it, and you can damn sure bet you'll get it fixed by Strider.

I prefer the normal or standard version myself. You can really get a grip on it for heavy duty stuff. CC is great for carry, but in a wet environment or sweaty hands and you can lose postive control. But the CC does carry alot easier. Compromise between the two and try out the Gunner Grips. My personal favorite.

I carry the standard SMF from time to time. I have no problem with the size or weight. It took a day or 2 to get used to it as I was used to my DGG SnG. Now I really can't tell which I have in my pocket.
Both are great cutters that will work for virtually all every day cutting tasks as well as many not so normal uses.

never handled CC version but no probs with standard SMF, it carries smaller than Manix.

Yes the buck/strider is what turned me on to strider also. And yes same deal with the buck...but remember the buck was partially serrated and the sng will not be. Little more workable straight blade. The sng's I own are tanks but to be honest, with my big mitts, I actually liked the added width of the buck with the g10 scales and liners. But I've got to say as far as solid lock-up...no contest get the strider. Hope this helped.

I like the regular SnG and SMF, had the GG and thought it was too thin and went back the regular G10.

the buck strider, or the 880 anyway, isnt really like any of the real striders, i suppose some of the later ones (what model are they??) are kinda similar in shape but the thin liner always scared me off.

of the SnG and SmF for pocket carry the SnG is a lot better imho, i have never handled any of the CC models though.
