So I forge most of time but I did some stock removal for a chefs knife. It's 1084 purchased from AKS. Do I need to normalize?

Nope, steel from aks is ready to harden. If in doubt check their website. They have info on all their steel available for download

From what I have heard the steel from AKS is good to go. The 80CrV2 from Aldo does need a high temp normalizing and some feel that the 1084 does as well although I never had a problem but I haven't used it in a long time. I always found that new 15n20 from anyone was the easiest to get great results from and it doesn't rust quit as bad.

I am just finishing up my 2nd knife and both are 1084 from AKS. Didn't normalize, and they both did very well with HT. And for me that's something, as I'm a total newbie, LOL.
