Received a hook knife from North Bay Forge the other day. It's a double edge knife (push, or pull cuts) thats very well made, and comfortable to use.

Forged high carbon steel, 8" ash handle so you can use two hands, and sharp as a razor.

I like this one because it starts out with just a slight curve for larger surfaces and to remove tool marks and then curves sharply at the end. Perfect for spoons, bowls, noggins, and cups. This also makes it easier to strop IMO.

It's a fine knife and a must for any carver, or outdoorsman.

i like that one... i still haven't ordered any hook knives yet.. i need to get some...:o

Is this the deep Bent Knife or the general Bent Knife? (And what kind of wood are you working with?) I have been thinking of getting one of the regular or mini deep Bent Knives and am pleased to see your positive comments. I have been using the hook knives (RH & LH) from Pinewood Forge, and while they are excellent knives they are also slightly larger and single edged. I think a smaller double edged knife should be handier to use.

Mine is the general bent knife (not mini). I work primarily with Tupelo, Bass wood, and butternut.

I use a Pinewood forge Sloyd knife. Great tools, and Del and Mary are great people.

It looks like the general has enough curve. I will probably end up with a regular and a mini before it is all over. I started out with the Pinewood Forge spoon kit and then added the LH hook knife.

I use a variety of woods. I have just picked up a small batch of freshly cut sycamore (from a northern friend's rather large back yard) which I hope to start on tomorrow.

Love to see some of your work if you get the chance. I personally would like to see carving projects, and tools in here more often.

You will not be disappointed with the NBF bent knife.
