Does anyone know a remote spot where I can camp, build a wood burning fire legally? It seems that the only places that allow fires are car/camping places, not at all remote...

Pretty much most wilderness areas, especially BLM land. If your looking for a park forget about it. Head to the mountains

do some research online on public land-National Forests or BLM land are great because you can camp anywhere, no fire restrictions etc.

Just make sure you stop at a fire station and get your campfire permit to make a fire in any of the areas mentioned.

If you head up to the foothills or the Sierras just about any public land you camp out on is fine for lighting up a camp fire. In the middle of the summer though, I would call the Forestry Service and ask them if a permit is needed for the county you are planning on camping in. Everything is divided up into County's just check out which one your heading to and if you need a permit they are really easy to get.

And check for burn restrictions, especially in dry years. Sometimes campfires are restricted or forbidden in some areas. The local forest service ranger station can tell you all that you need to know.
