Well the Sun is shining full-brite right now, and the thermometer reads 5 degrees. There's a foot of snow out there, and all I want to do is ride my motorcycle or maybe pick up a fishing pole and go sit down by the river. Since we are all standing around the grinder this morning with our feet kicked up on the old pickle barrel, sipping our coffees I think I'll just rant and bitch and muse a while if'n y'all are of a mind to listen. :)

Seems every year I get older, I get more depressed about living through another Northern Winter. Being housebound really gets to you after a while. I hate having to wear all the clothing I do just to stay warm. I go to bed at night and my wife puts her popsicle toes on my back. Christ Almighty, it's a wonder I don't freeze solid.

Even the Captain is irritated by the snow and ice. Just look at him!

It's expensive up here. Fuel oil prices are through the roof. Oh how I long for a warm tropical breeze, a hammock strung between two palms, and a cold beer. Those Corona commercials are so inviting. Wish I was there!

Linda is down in St. Augustine, FL right now visiting her niece and nephew. On the phone, she sounds so relaxed and comfortable. I pick her up at the airport tomorrow afternoon, and I'll have to be sure I bring her a coat. :(

We've talked about moving down to NC. I've spoken about it here in the forums so much I think you guys are getting tired of hearing it, and I don't blame you. I would love nothing better than to buy a place down South somewhere and build a new shop.

Any of you Floridians got any ideas for me? Linda says St. Augustine is nice, and the surrounding area INLAND is somewhat reasonable $$$ for housing and land. Help me out, here... I'M FREEZING!

:D

Your puppy looks as happy as my pooch in this weather. Everyday when I come home from work, I hear him jump off of my bed and run to meet me.

Elevation counts a lot in the climate thing, too. At 5700' we get a 90-100 day growing season. The winter is not as severe for as long as it is in New England, but if we get a big snowstorm it goes well below zero afterwards.

A cold wind blows from late February into April most years and we almost always have a mid-June frost.

April to mid November are nice though, It get to 100° sometimes in the summer, but with humidity in the teens and it usually clouds up enough to cool off the afternoons.

buncha whiners ya oughta try montana it was so cold this morning i saw a cottontail trying to jumstart a jackrabbit.

Jeff,

Your up there in Newengland, aren't you? Our forefathers fled west after spending just one winter in N.H. They didn't have any travel broshures to look at. They just knew it had to be better than where, they were. I don't know that they were right thow, I love that country, but it takes a hardy sole to live there year round. When you get a few years on you, that cold really gets to your bones.
When I watch my new pup,[Budo] playing in the snow, caring little about the temperture, I forget, how cold it is, and just watch him run. He is the best thing that happenend for me this year. Fred

5 degrees ABOVE zero????
what the hell? Above??
That's a bloody heat wave here lately.
I'm with you on moving south some time though...

Yeah I definitely feel for you people that live in Minnesota. Good ice fishing up that way though! :D

Yeah I got exactly 0 on the thermo this morning. Brrr!

Enjoy the cold Jeff. I hate nothing worse than watching my electric meter spin like a top from running the A.C., and still be laying there sweating at night.

I hate the friggin heat. I can bundle up and be warm, but ya can only get so cool.

I wish you lived in Northeast Washington and wanted to move here. We could just trade. :D

Awrighty, Dan. I'll take ya... sheesh! :D

Yeah you know we'd have to come back just to give Rebello a hard time!

I am glad Captain Nemo has matamorphosisized back to his handsome self.
That pic you posted when he "had a bad hair day" was pretty frightening.

I am not real crazy about these gray snowy days either.

Next time your wife visits St Augustine in the winter time, try to invite yourself along. Its been a long time since I was there but to see the Old Saint Augustune Fort is a neat experience.....and it is WARMER there:D

Okay that's it. You lose your "Masta" title and you get 5 Bladeforums demerits for that statement. I insist you move to Washington, and tell us a year later in mid-January that you wish you had some warm weather.

You know, I lived in the South for a total of 8 years. Four years in Del Rio, Texas, and another four in Tampa, Florida. For those of you that live in the Southlands, and bitch about the heat, well let me tell you... there's always swimming pools, cold drinks, and fans. Up here, normal life stops. Can't just go outside for a jog. People do, but it sucks to get that bloody-taste in your throat from hyperventilating frozen air. I have a storage shed out back I have been building. Have to wait until spring now to finish. Working up to your arse in snow is not fun at all.

Can't just bolt down to the store for a six-pack. Got to warm up the car, bundle up, scrape ice and snow off, plow the driveway, and hope some lame peckerhead dont sideswipe you coming out of his driveway because he has bald tires and cant stop.

At least in the South you get acclimated. When Linda and I lived in Tampa. we grew to not use our A/C except for a couple months in the summer. It was great! I know there are some folks who live in the South and scurry like littel field mice from one air-conditioned building to another. We do the same up here, sometimes even in the summer!

No, I think the South is a great place. Its an attitude. A lifestyle. In my whole Air Force career, the people I made the best and longest-lasting friendships with were all Southerners.

So not to rant and rave on you, Mark, but if you want to move North then go for it, and I wish you and the missus all the best!

Me? I'll be in The South somewhere sipping a cool beer and humming Glen Cambell's "Southern Nights"! :D

That dont look like Glen Campbell... is it?

Yes...it is the infamous and fairly recent mugshot from his unruly arrest for "extreme drunk driving".....looks like he needs some of IG's HT relish....

I must admit though that it isnt very nice of me to post it....I always loved his music....

Damn shame what alcohol can do to people....
