This hybrid puukko cuts with a blade ground from O7 flat stock, sports a copper ferrule and has a handle made from Burma ironwood (Xylia Xylocarpa).
The blade ricasso has bevels which are giving a straight transition into the edge and the tang is riveted over the butt.
Burma ironwood is an extreme solid , hard wood that is rather plain and inconspicuous.
It darkens immediately when contacted with hand sweat and oils, leaving a beautiful sinister plain no nonsens tool look.
It already can be seen at the transition from the ferrule in the handle wood from the greasy maintenance of the ferrule.
The sheath has a wood liners and is made from half tanned cow leather that still has a rawhide core.
Blade measures 100 mm and overall length is 225 mm.

Cheers

The lines on this make me think of a fixed blade Opinel. I mean that in a good way as it's an attractive design that looks sleek and is built to cut.

Really beautiful work, thank you for sharing.

Beautiful!

Would you be willing to share more pics of how you shaped the handle? I have been intrigued by this kind for a while but can't seem to get it right. Would be cool to see a bit of a tutorial.

Trailwalker and longbow, Thanks a lot!

Trailwalker, unfortunately I have no more tutorial (Wip)pictures of that knife.
But in general handle shaping is mostly the same process,.You beveling from square to 8(corners) and if that is possible to 16 corners and then rounding it up.
It helps a lot to get the profiled Handle in accurate square shape and then scribe lines for "8 and 16" corners as accurate as possible.
When I grind to the scribed lines I try to hit them as cleanly as if it were the final shape.
That helps to keep the relations to the form. When you go for really round or oval in cross section on handle shapes
it is easy loosing the touch to the form. So scribing precisely and grinding the scribed lines cleanly is a slower process but after done well you have the better form and it is faster and easier to finish.
I have pictures of a barrel shaped puukko leather handle which underscores the approach of grinding cleanly to scribed lines
I hope that helps a little.
Cheers
