Thought I'd run this by you guys and gals.
Back last May, Northwest Airlines requested volunteers
to come forward as they oversold the flight, as I was
heading home, a bit longer at the airport wasn't too much
to ask in exchange for a free round trip ticket in the USA

Well it sounded fine, but when you go to collect, there are
stipulations, such as it's a W class ticket and of course the
day I wanted to travel was excluded.

I asked well, what day could I go, they said hmm April 1st
would work, but, they couldn't get me back?

My date was April 7th, so moving it that many days is out
of the question. Then, they asked is there any place else
you want to go? Uh...actually I want to go where I wanted
to go.

I called back to talk with a supervisor, not any more help.

Anyone else hear of this? Sounds like I'm just plain out of luck
I would have used it earlier, but last year was a major travel
year for my regular job, meaning I barely got home before I
had to leave again.

This is a good lesson. All coupons are not created equal. When you consider one of these offers, be sure to ask what restrictions the coupon will have. And that is negotiable at the time you make the deal. If you don't ask and insist, they will give you the least valuable coupon they can. If you do ask and insist, they can issue a more flexible, more valuable coupon.

Good idea Chuck, when I spoke to the supervisor, she said that is the class you
get for either bumps or perks, doubtful that you can request a different class
but, if you didn't know to ask, you'd never ask, so next time, I'll ask and others
may well benefit from this info.

I asked our travel agency if they could pull any strings, no luck, they said it really
was a matter of bad timing, spring break is a tough time of year to get seats.
