MANY years ago, a kindly gentleman handed me a well worn leather sheath, with a SOG Northwest Ranger knife in it. I used it for years, and loved that knife.

It got stolen one day i was heartbroken.

fast forward to last month.....when the BC WRECKING CREW met up for a short hike. SwitchBlade61 had a SOG NWR in his mitts and it brought back a lot of memories for me. Pretty much the next day i went to Jay at W&W and picked one up.

a few strops and it was deadly sharp. It just feel right in the hand and it slays wood like nothing.

It is one of my favorites.

A SOG CLASSIC.

Thanks for the story. We don't hear much about the NW Ranger, even though it's a sweet knife. Glad you were able to get a replacement.

Bushman, I first seen the NWR many years ago. I could never get my hands on one. I never was on the interwebs till 2 years ago. I finally saw the re-release of the NWR and lo and behold..........wait for it......A Plain edge !!
My dream of getting one was fulfilled and at far less cost than was expected. They weren't even on W&W site when I e-mailed asking about it. Jay told me " Getting some Next week."
I swear he didn't even have it up for 5 minutes on the site when I ordered one. I was gonna order 2 , but realized this knife will be widely available.
This is one wickedly proportioned knife. I even like the traditional sheath. No modding to do ,no regrinding , no stripping , no tweaking...it's good to go right outta the box. A great traditional woods knife with modern materials at a decent price. Definately one to get.I wanted this one for a looong time :):)

Here's the one, that sent Bushy over the edge... ;)

I've been going back and forth between this and a cold steel SRK. I think both are great knives, but in the end I just prefer the look of the NW Ranger and I think it will fit my uses perfectly. I just wish it had a kydex sheath, but I might have to try my hand at making one for it.

Awesome pic....I just ordered one, will have it tomorrow. I can't wait to put this thing to use. May not get any sleep tonight...hahaha

Definantly a nice knife and one thats very under rated. Would love to get one some day. I never noticed the sheath till you mentioned it. Looks solid and well built. Nothing to complain about there. Normally I make a leather sheath for the knives I wear a lot, but the sheath is the style I normally make for my self so I see no need to replace it. Good Job SOG! IMO A Good combo.

I love mine, however not too thrilled with the sheath. It's OK but not great; cheap leather if you ask me. I had a BlackHawk 5.5" Airborne Deluxe Knife Sheath I bought years ago and to my surprise it fit the knife perfectly. Too bad BlackHawk discontinued that sheath. You might be able to find one on ebay or a gun show.

I use the Ranger's leather sheath for my Seal Pup now.

I met Spencer Frazer at blade show some years ago. I told him that I loved my NW Ranger and Tsunami, but I don't like serrations. I said that if they ever came out with plain edges. Today I bought a new Tsunami. Next stop, NW Ranger.:D

The NW Ranger was in fact the first SOG fixed blade I purchased. I liked it at first and then pretty much retired it due to the serrations on the blade. I just prefer plain edged knives. Have not purchased the current one as of yet. It is not a priority as I am using primarliy the Seal Pup Elite these days as my general woods blade IF I carry a fixed blade at all. I like fixed blades, but I don't "use" fixed blades very often.
