We are not San Fransisco nor are we all marijuana growers even if we produce more of it than anywhere else. My parents gave me a ton or morals and in their beliefs so I do not....I do run a forest district of Trinity Humboldt and Mendocino Counties aka the three counties of the Emerald Triangle....I just wanted to note the amazing mountains we have and opportunities as well as wood for everything from homes to knife handles. I did 21 straight days on fire duties on my Mad River Ranger District with the Humboldt, the Route, the South and the Mad River fire Complexes and I am tired, but folks like you all here, remind me America isn't lost yet.

I just look forward to my JK boot knife I have on order and seeing the other work here...I prefer just to see the JK threads since it is a nicer blog.

Oh and I am told if you taste metal in your mouth for three days after a close lightning strike that you were probably hit...well that sucks! Then there is the burning 19 inch diameter pine log I picked up....lol....Viking and Sasquatch genes sure help at times!

I agree, the JK forum is "good people". Stay safe out there. Remember, as useful as those Viking and Sasquatch genetics may be, there aren't a whole lot of either group left around for a reason. The meek have inherited the earth.

Some great people hang out here! Seems like some have moved on, but still a lot sticking around. You have a dangerous job , watch yourself and be careful.

Darned good point and I saw some of the flaws in my thinking during the fire break out

At the same time it is a fantastic job that I still manage to complain about...lol...I promise to be safer than I was a few weeks ago.

Well, thank you sir! That really puts a smile on my face and the warm fuzzies in my belly.

You have some truly amazing landscape around you. I daydream about having mountains and hills like that.
My jeep isn't really living up to its potential just crawling over logs and tree stumps all the time.

Other than my home with my wife and kids...mom and dad...my most cherished place on the planet burned..not the black mtn, but the spot I stood to take the pictures..remote..spiritual...perfect.

It will be a long time before those old wind swept pines come back.

Then

All I can say is it hurts my heart to see, fire is natural, but not what we have seen this month

Did you know that fire only happens on this planet?
No where else in our solar system do fires like this happen.
There isn't any organic material to burn anywhere else but this Earth.

Kinda crazy to think about.

I thing we rounded the corner now and almost have the fires licked.

68,000 acres of fire I am managing right now.

So as I stated this was the most important place for me locally if not on the world. Well if burned off hot. Today I went to the location of a family grave site and camp and in the rubble I found pieces of an old Willy's jeep leaf spring set...wtf huh?

Temper those springs down and have knives made in remembrance of the event!
That is quite a fire, not meaning to belittle it at all. I am glad you made it out the other side.

I have my fire exam coming up around Nov. so here's to hope.

it was a little nuts to say the least. Looks like some Camp knives from the family camp huh?

I found on Sunday a piece of wood above the tree line while mapping some areas of concern for erosion. IDK if it is pine, cedar, fir etc...I am thinking pine. It was so hard and feels so odd when cut with a powdery texture. Heavy. Almost like it was petrifying?

I was told this was a type of Fusainized Wood or at least on its way which is similar to petrified.

DID YOU NOTICE HOW TIGHT THE GROWTH RINGS ARE?

Grew up in Cottonwood on the Shasta/Tehama county line so understand the Northern CA part. We've also just gone through a major fire season here in Okanogan County, WA.

Let us see the finished product when you get those knives finished. Let them remind you and your's of what was while the area rejuvenates.

Thank you for your work watching over the forests.
