Does anyone have experience with Northwoods Knives? They produce traditional knives, and their Cowboy Bowie has piqued my interest. I'm looking for opinions on their quality and performance.

Get it. I have two of their knives and they are top notch. I don't know if it is the case with all of their knives but the two I own were made by Queen. They are fine examples of flawless perfection.

Dave Shirley is a class act. Anything he is involved with is going to be great.

Have you seen the Scagel Reproductions by Northwoods? That is what I have two of. They are so nice it is beyond description. Pics dont' do them justice really.

Last year I bought two Nortwoods drop point hunters, one for a gift and one for myself. I haven't used mine and have received no feedback regarding the one I gave away. But my intial impression is that these are quality tools.

Both knives arrived sharp, not scary sharp but sharp enough to use. The joints are tight and smooth. The natural handle materials were both very attractive.

The only flaw at all is a slight bit of epoxy, leaked out where the guard meets the blade. But since the knives were on closeout for $45 I can't complain.

Best Wishes,
Bob

I've got one of the Cowboy Bowies on hold along with the leather Gamblers shoulder sheath. Picked it up at www.vintageknives.com He has great prices. The bowie is a traditional 1870's cowboy bowie style, and a style I really like! The Sambas stag handles are a favorite also. Everything I've read about Northwoods is good! :D :D :D

I’ve got three Northwoods knives, and they’re all of the same high quality.

I have two Willow Leafs: one with a green/black micarta handle, and one with a beautiful Cocobolo handle. They have the fully convex 52100b blades which take and hold an excellent edge. I’ll probably buy one of the new D2 Willow Leafs to keep them company.

I got a Boundary Waters about a month ago. It has a 6” 52100B blade and a Cocobolo handle. It is a great camp knife.

My next Northwoods purchase will probably be a Wind River.

Dave Shirley makes a very good knife, and seems to take a lot of pride in doing what he does well.

If I remember correctly, Queen made the folders for Dave because they could meet the quality standards he wanted on the folders.
