I dropped the ball on ordering a Madison spear point, thinking that there would still be some available. I've seen a few, I'm either late to the party after they've sold, or found one with mammoth bone/ivory and it was out of my price range. They look really nice to me, not necessarily a barlow, but still great knives. I'm hoping that GEC makes some daddy/granddaddy barlows in the same size.

I had read that there were instances of blade rubbing, that doesn't bother me even with my OCD tendencies, but the edge hitting the backspring allegations, that would bother me. I heard that the clip point models don't do that. I'm hoping that Derrick has an order for more spear points coming down the pike. In the meantime, I'd like to see any side by side pictures of the spear vs clip blade. I'm trying to hold out for a spear point, but that clip looks so good.

I have an ivory spear and it does not have the blade hitting the back spring issue. I know some of them did but apparently not all of them.

Sorry I don't have both to do a side by side comparison.

Honestly, I wouldn't sweat the back spring issue. I seriously doubt you'll have a problem. And even if you did Derrick would make it right.

Sorry I don't have a side-by-side either. All I can say is my Madison is easily one of my top favorite knives. The build, F&F, size, balance, and quality are awesome.

As requested.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures. I can't seem to get a good picture indoors and it's pouring outside right now.

Gorgeous. I want it....

Here ya go. Blue camel bone is the spear point. It barely nicked the backspring when I got it, but it sharpened out the first time I took the stones to it and hasn't hit it again since.

Wowzer!!! Beautiful collection!

Thank you everyone for the pics, a spear it is! Keep them coming though, please.

Derrick, safe travels and good luck in Africa. If you're going to be getting any spear Madisons in light ebony produced, I can definitely take one off your hands ;)...

It is too early to know what handle materials will be on them. they are quite a ways out.
