i have had my Scagel large English jack (barlow) for awhile now but had not used it. more recently i acquired a very nice sheath from A.G. Russell and it's a good fit. today i decided to carry it as i went out to clear winter's deadfall from my skid roads (April's job list). i was cutting from above on a fairly large overhanging hemlock when a "barber chair' type split occurred, trapping my saw bar and leaving a slab of wood about 1 x 6 inches attached to the remainder of the trunk. i pulled and levered on the saw as hard as i dare for fear of bending the bar, but to no avail. then i started kicking the attached slab, also to no avail. then a light went on. use your knife! well, 4 cuts, without even a lot of hand pressure and i was through; saw freed up. what a satisfying first use; sort of reminded me of those old Remington posters.
any one else used their Scagel #8 yet ? attached pics. including cougar kill of earlier this week. used my Fehrman Peace Maker to dress out the quarters and backstraps; another really good knife. life in the "country" is never boring. roland
