Some scissorbill on another forum asked why Randall put such a crappy stone in the hone pocket of the sheaths.Funny thing is makers like Randall ,Ed Fowler,Jerry Fisk,Ethan Becker,Wayne Goddard, and Bob Dozier to name a few fairly knowledgable folks use and advocate the crappy Norton Fine India. The RMK shop has an old Norton tri-hone that Bo is pictured using back in the beginning years of the shop in the Gaddis book and his grandson was pictured using the same tri-hone recently.Diamonds are for big haired blondes and ceramic for coffee cups,as for me I prefer a old fashioned Norton Fine India stone to sharpen my knives.

Atta Boy!

If you want a working edge for the field it is hard to beat the Norton Fine India Stone.

There's not a thing wrong with Norton Fine India stones THE stone.

It's been my preferred stone since the mid 70's, and can produce an

exceptional edge once proper angle and touch are suitably adjusted....

I never thought of them as crappy. I liked having one in my field kit, and about 30 years ago I used to sharpen my Schrade Golden Spike with one while sitting by the fire before the next day's hunt. The GS is an odd shaped knife that doesn't make a really good camp knife for wood working chores, but is great in a field kitchen and will dismantle small/medium game in a heartbeat.

The little Norton stone I had in the leather sheath pouch was a perfect match for a great field edge on that old carbon blade. It gets a toothy edge that easily slices right through flesh.

It's all I use on mine. They clean up easy too. Just chuck them in the dishwasher, but don't let the woman see you do it.

That may be a good idea, don't have a dishwasher so can't try it. I do use a diluted solution of water and super green and wipe the stone off with piece of old Levies.
