Norwegian Military Issue?

I've been browsing around the internet for a while, and after some lurking have concluded that this is probably spot with people likely able to help out.

I am looking for the brand of knife used in any or all of the Norwegian forces, as a Christmas present. I've had no trouble finding who manufactures US and Sweedish fixed blades, but haven't been able to locate the Norwegian suppliers.

Also, if this doesn't turn out, does anyone have useful experience to share regarding custom knife makers from Norway? I've browsed many of them on the web, but they seem very art oriented (or possibly my eye is just sees them as artsy when its used to more aggressive looking American designs). Something along the lines of a CS SRK or a Norwegian equivalent of the Fallkniven line?

Any help appreciated,
Erik

For all manner of Scandinavian working knives, check out Ragnar's Ragweed Forge. He's got Swedish, Finnish, and Norwegian knives from simple and inexpensive to some very fine dress knives. And a lot of other good stuff, besides, including links to many other websites.

I hope you find what you're looking for!

Hello!

Well, the only Norwegian issue knives that I am aware of, are bayonets and a samiknife made by Strømeng. Some light infantry (Jeger), are issued this samiknife (I`m not all that knowledgable about the military in general). The samiknife ( I guess these are called leuku in Finland), has an eight inch blade and is 33 cm (about a foot I guess) overall. It has a guard and a non- reflective carbon steel blade, the model number is KS8F. A picture can be found on this page, it`s the knife to the left.

Unfortunately, the Strømeng page is in Norwegian only.... I have no idea who might be selling these, on the other side of the pond. But you could try to hassle those who sell other Norwegian knives. Bruslettto (www.brusletto.no page in English also btw. )markets Strømeng knives in southern Norway, maybe those who sell Brusletto products in the USA or Canada could get them?
I don`t know if this is what you are looking for, but there really is no Norwegian equivalent of Fällkniven....

I`m afraid I have not yet gotten into custom knives, so I really can`t help you there. But in general, there are people in Norway who make very artsy knives, but there are people who make traditional patterns, and also plainer more working type knives. But, the "tactical black" type knives are not all that common in Norway, to say the least.
