Here's what happens when you make the same knife two times at once; the come out pretty darn close to alike. :) If the handles weren't different it'd be very hard to tell one from the other, which pleases me no end. Now, if I could just get both sides to match so perfectly... :D

Specs:
Overall - 10 7/8"
Blade - 5 1/2" O1 differentially hardened with a bit of a peaked mune
Bolsters - 416 SS (includes pin shadow, dang it)
Pins - Finally made my own mosaic; 416 Thong Tube
Handles - 47 has Black Palm, 48 has Antique / Butterscotch Micarta

47 was an order, it lasted about 3 hours on the dealer's table, which also made me feel pretty good. Particularly as the customer came back a couple times, and finally chose my knife over a beauty by Jerry Kennedy. Wow! Look out master knifemakers!! :D

Dave

And here's 48... Hope you like em. I've made 5 of these now, I think next time I'll have the pattern down.

wow, i can definitly see the similarities between the two ;)- they look almost exactly alike!

In the BF Service and Support forum they mentioned that with the changes made there might be some problems with various features but they should be worked out soon.

Since the changeover I lost my Knifemaker membership but at least now I know when my expiration date is now! ;)

Dave, I can post them on my web server space if you like. You'll need to email them to me so I can upload them.

Roger

Roger, thanks for being smart!

Here's number 47:

Wow! Those are sweet Dave. I can't wait to see the bottom one in person! Excellent handle contouring and great lines!

Way cool, I like them both, but the mycarta does it for me, simple and clean, just the way I like them!

Really great, Dave! We are looking forward to seeing your next project(s), too, guy. I really like your design, good proportions and good flowing lines, too. Also, you going to post pic of that acient ivory knife you are working on? I wanna see it!

That's what I like about this job, there can be something for everyone. :) Personally I like the Micarta handle too, but people who've seen both have been evenly divided between them. They are after all nearly exactly alike with that one exception. :)

Roger, yes the spine is peaked on both of them. I did it to mimic the angled mune on Japanese swords. It's easier to do than you might think, though once I made the angle too steep and had to grind it all off.

Bruce I was really pleased with myself on these tangs too, I finally got them deep enough after all this time! Next I'll start drilling them out too, as the handles are just a bit heavy yet. Not too much, just a bit...

John, I'll get a pic and send it to you, that one is just a kit knife so I don't need to post it here. But I did stretch a bit and heat color the fileworked liners... :D I'll send you a pic soon, just haven't taken one yet.

Thanks for all the kind words, folks!

Dave

Wow Dave they are fantastic.

You have convinced me I have to start tapering the tang. 48 those numbers are rolling up faster. I finished a knife last night. In the same time you have made 6.

Dave,

Are there any tips you can give on peaking the spine. I presume you just tilt and grind. Anything special to know??

Great work Pal.

I'm doing handle work on my #12; a Chuck Leake Mammoth ivory - D'Holder/Loveless hybrid in s30v. Running off to camp tomorrow, so won't be able to get back to it till next week :grumpy:.

Roger

Roger you've mentioned Camp a couple times - what Camp? I'm curious. Anyway, you have mail about the peaked spine.
