Gonna buy a knife today
I have no idea what
Maybe a fixed? Maybe a folder.
Needs to be sturdy and ~3" but will buy up to 4"
If its around 3 it will get used more.
Steel preference VG10 S30V S35VN Elmax harder steels I don't want to strop every day.
Instead of getting something entirely on impulse, I thought I would consult you all.
Any ideas?

I'll check back in an a couple hours when I get there to see what ya came up with.

Happy Friday!

Any ideas, sure, here's a big one: check stuff out at Cabela's then come back and buy it online and save a boatload of cash.

Touché! Reccomendation then according to online prices for frame of reference.

Are they really marked up there that much?
I've never been! That's why I'm so excited lol

That. Check out Knifeworks, Blade Hq, KnivesShipFree, and TheKnifeConnection for great prices on a large inventory. (And all of these are BladeForums paid Dealers.)

They really are unless you get one on clearance or something. It's not even that they are marked up per say but they are full retail price and usually when you buy from an online dealer it is at a marked down price. :)

Excellent idea. I just did my weekly walk-through of the local Cabelas today at lunch. Unfortunately there really isn't much that inspires me when I visit their knife counter. They do have a few Benchmades and Kershaws that I handle on occasion. No Spydies or ZTs. Plenty of SOGs and CRKTs. Mostly I use it as a showroom.

Yes.

If you're spending a Cabela's gift certificate or something like that, there are much better ways to spend it than at their knife counter. :)
I like their shirts, when they're on sale.

Cabela's is the LAST place I'd buy a knife! Prices at my local Cabela's (Dundee, MI) are at least full MSRP, if not higher! And online I can find stuff for 40-70% off MSRP. Do yourself a favor and take your phone into the store with you... and then, for whatever knife you're considering, check it out on a reputable online site (like Knifeworks, for example) to see the price difference. More times than not, you could get almost TWO of the same knife online for what Cabela's is charging for one.

Thanks all for the reccomendations, ended up getting a Buck 102 woodsman for about 8 bucks more than online dealers.

Side note, they had some pants there with a reinforced area for a knife on the right pocket. I thought that was pretty cool.

Knife works does have some fantastic prices though

Sorry I didn't realize I was treading on dropping prices of non BF dealers...will be more cautious next time.

And you can find those same pants elsewhere for much less as well. Try them on in the store to get the size you want, then by elsewhere.

I GET IT EVERYTHING IS CHEAPER ONLINE lol I've got around 30 knives and too much Max gear all purchased online.
I wasn't gonna buy pants with spring around the corner anyway some shorts? I wouldn't mind finding a pair online somewhere
