My wife has this friend named Brandon that she's been friends with since they were little kids. We've met a few times, but I've never really had a chance to get to know him. He's in the Naval Reserves and when he's not serving, he's on giant container and tanker ships going all over the world.
He came and stayed with us for the past week and I really got a chance to know him. I can't figure out when my parents gave him up for adoption, must have been when I was too young to remember, but I'm pretty sure he's my long lost twin. Needless to say we've become quick buddies.
He's about to head back out for another 8 month stretch and I wanted to get him a good folder to take with him. I've seen the folders he takes on the boats. They're junk. The only request he had is that it be something that can stand up to the sea, because he doesn't give his knives the necessary oil and attention that they deserve. He also wants something either fully or half serrated. Considering that all he ever cuts is ropes, lines, etc. and I know he doesn't sharpen them regularly enough, I skipped the usual argument for plain edge being just as useful if you keep it up properly.
I wouldn't mind getting him a folder/FB combo. I was checking out some of the Syderco Salt stuff, but I'd like a bunch of suggestions. I am giving him one of my RATs for when he wants to use the best, but gimme some ideas for the others.
Thanks homies.
