Some observations and experiences. I know this has been discussed before, but.....

A lanyard does help.

CQC-7 Left handed: works almost every time.

CQC -14: I had a tough time waving the traditional way, but since I'm left handed I tried it in the reverse grip, knife positioned toward the front of the pocket on the left side and it works very well.

Mini Commander: I had a tough time with this one.

I'd like to hear your experiences?

Thanks

Toughest one I had was a Horseman. My CQC-10 is the easiest (no thumbdisk to hold the pocket away from the wave) and my Commander and Super Commander are also very easy, I think because the wave protrudes so prominently. My Journeyman is also very easy to deploy. Found the CQC-7 I used to have to be a bit less wave-friendly, will have to see about the incoming Super 7 and Mini 7 when they get here. And my Eleven works just fine.

I've had trouble getting the wave to work on two different models, the CQC-14 (snubby) and the Horseman. The 14 would actually open up before the blade tip was out of my pocket 50% of the time. Plus that little knife liked blood, probably cut myself 4 or 5 times with it. The Horseman wave just didn't work for me, probably 50% of the time it wouldn't open at all. I sold both because I want that feature to work.

The 7, 8, SOCFK and all sizes of the Commander, even the Micro, have worked well for me. I've got a CQC-10 and a Gentleman Jim inbound, and I expect these will be just fine.

I agree that the wave on the Horseman is tucked down by the choil just a bit too far, and I also have a hard time with it.

I actually have a harder time with my SOCFK than with my CQC-7. The wave is pretty small on it.

Looking at images of the SOFCK, it appears the upper portion of the guard sort of shields it too...or stated another way, it's position relative to the pivot point might be hindered... (?)

My mini Commander Waves very well but it is buttery smooth. My 8 is not nearly as smooth but Waves almost as well.

My Mini Commander waves very smoothly every time. My Desert Roadhouse was stiff until I cleaned and adjusted it. Now it pops 99% of the time. My SOCFKB still needs some work. I've cleaned, lubed and adjusted it but it can be persnickety at times.

Ah, maybe that's why I can't get the Mini Commander to wave consistently. It's brand new and has not been cleaned and lubed.

Yep that's probably it. They usually need to be cleaned and churned to become butter.

That's probably it. I've practiced quite a bit with the SOCFK and I still need to be pretty deliberate to wave it open, especially with some of my pants and shorts with differing styles of pockets. It hasn't deterred me from carrying it frequently though. I love this thing.

I'm right handed but I always put the clip on the left handed side. Drawing forward into reverse grip is the only way I carry.

And always use a 3"-4" lanyard.

For me the Lanyard helps me find the correct hand position from feel and I get a little more grip with my four finger and pinky grasping the Lanyard.

This method works great. I carry mine in my back left pocket, grab G10 with my thumb and the clip with my index and middle finger pull up and slightly forward and bang, right in a reverse grip. I personally have never felt the need for a laynard while doing this but having smallish hands might allow more appendages to grab it. Ymmv as they say.

I have a spyderco p'kal with an emerson wave on it and it works wonderfully.
Also my gypsy jack waves 100% of the time
