(DISCLAIMER: THIS IS TESTING INTEREST IN A FUTURE IDEA, NOT TRYING TO SOLICIT MY HANDLE FOR SALE, LEFT NO CONTACT INFO AND AM NOT SELLING MY HANDLE, SOMETHING I MAY DO (in the appropriate channels ofc) IF I GET A SECOND CRUCARTA PM2)
So, I am in a bit of a pickle with PM2s, of which the only answer is buying more PM2s and I really don't know if I should do that as I don't even have a Millie yet (but am maybe holding out for Millie 2) I am wanting a mint Sage 5 LW badly as my first true LW. The pickle is this: I want to buy fancy wood liners, and have a wooden "gentleman" PM2, made by this Russian artist (actually, wait, I might not be able to buy from Russia now, literally like, I do not think goods are coming in now from Russia). I also think I am gonna eventually need a second Cruwear, but I wanna put it on G-10, but do not wanna buy a whole extra S45 knife.
I have three PM2s, black G10 S45VN, Cruwear Micarta, and a fairly gentlemanly PM2 Exclusive in REX 45 and original copper scales. Heavy beast, like a Buck 110, but I love it, and will love it more as I learn the steels. The REX is tougher than I thought, it isn't actually very brittle, I thought I'd get a straight CUTTER for the fancy, like S110V or Maxamet, but... I am scared of those steels
Anyways, the problems that face me:
1. I LIKE all of these models by themselves. I like the super light 3.75oz G10 S45, I like the Cruwear with Micarta as a combo, and I like the REX/copper.
2. No matter what I like, each of these has different liners. In order - nested (normal) liners, full liners, and no/milled liners. So...
3. I need to sacrifice the G10 if I want a "fancy" knife with liners, as those are built for regular nested liners. I don't wanna give it up. And if I wanted, say, the REX on the fancy, I'd have to first replace that with the S45 on the copper scales, and the REX on the G10, then G10 to wood.
So, first part of q: If you were doing what I was doing, what would you do personally? What would your "fancy" knife steel be, either amongst what I have here, or one you would get? Why? And it looks like I will HAVE to get another G-10 version unless the wood is as light, because... I like the light version. have a STRONG feeling I am going to fall in love with Cruwear as my go-to, every-day steel, therefore, regardless of this fancy-stuff, I will want a Cruwear G-10.
I do not know that I want to BUY another G-10 just to have normal liners. So, you know the way some of you LOVE copper, LOVE titanium, LOVE micarta... and you guys know you want that. So, if you are a person who doesn't mind full liners, would you (in theory, not asking now) or do you think others would, want my scales, for their love of Micarta, in exchange for some regular scales/liners, and we put our own respective blades on them? Do you think that is something that could happen for me in the future?
