So my CQC-8 was a BNIB made in 2011. Breaking her in, she was still just a rough when I got her a month ago even after many openings and closings. I did what was suggested on the Emerson site and just flushed it out with WD-40. I was surprised how much black gunk came out. Anyhow....smooth as butter now.

I use Blue Lube and my brother-in-law uses Froglube. I'm not sure which is "better" but either one will get the job done.

I searched all the lube threads and finally decided to use the grease that comes from Chris Reeves. My CQC7 and mini 15 are both like butter. What I can't say is how it holds up over time since I'm a new Emerson owner but it's been great so far.

I too prefer lubeless, especially with frame and liner locks. Sometimes ill use graphite powder on my other knives. But my Emersons stay lube free.

it's a copper-infused anti-sieze grease that's used in the pivot from the factory I think.

Gooeytek & droptyne are correct about the factory lube. I don't add anything to mine, either.
