Hey all you CRK fans, just thought I would share my latest score with the community. As you may or may not know I am pretty new to this forum and to CRK. My favorite CRK is the Umfaan. My Avatar is a South African post card from the last century that pictures a young Zulu boy with the caption: A Zulu Umfaan (Boy) "An open Countenance" (and you all thought it was a picture of Our Presidents Son, if he had a son!) :) But I am also obsessed with the Umnumzaan, I actually own several of these fantastic knives, all different of course. And I am always on the hunt for a new one that would fit into my growing obsession. Anyway I scored a New in the Box Umnumzaan with a Birth card dated 10-16-08. Pretty cool right?? It is the earliest production Umnumzaan that I have been able to get that was new in the box. Just thought I would share my excitement with the forum. Now if I could just get my paws on one of the prototypes... I can dream right? Thanks for taking the time to read my long boring post!! Oh yea here is a picture from the seller, I will post my own photos and impressions when the little guy makes it home.

Whoa, nice find!I haven't seen one older than mine in awhile on the forums (2009), hope you enjoy the blade!

Thanks Ichop, I am pretty excited about it though I hide it well. :) I think this is pretty early into production is it not??

Very nice! That one should be the original version as drawn up, before all of the changes. Nice score!

Thanks Ernie!! I figure it is pretty early in production not sure when the first production models were made.. Any information would be appreciated.

Yeah, I think 2008 was it's introduction year. Over time they added the Idaho stamp, largened the frame lock release tab, then the lock bar stabilizer addition, the obvious and ever controversial pivot change, and I think the new ones have en engraved lock bar stabilizer. Blade steel was changed to S35VN from S30V as well. Not sure if this is the proper order of changes, but I think those are the only ones.

On a side note, they updated the packaging for CRK knives, throwing in CRK grease and the CRK cloth.

lol lol yea my wife told me if I get one more she is going to leave!! I'm sure goanna miss her!! :)

The original Umnumzaans are the ones to have. I'm not a fan of the changes made to the knife over time as IMO it was done right the first time.

I agree but I do love the Wilson edition in any variation.

I agree AK!! The Wilson Combat version is very nice.. Still looking for the right one to come along.

Im currently looking for a wilson combat as well, I've let some slipped out of my hand but I really want to try one, now that they haven't been available on the exchange :(

So, it arrived today!! Wow!! I really lucked out on this one CRK fans!! As posted a few days ago I was lucky enough to get my hands on a fairly early BNB CRK Umnumzaan. I am very excited to tell you all that it is absolutely a pristine should I use the term "Mint" Condition Umnum. With a birth card of 10-16-08. The box, the paperwork, everything as if it has been in a time capsule for the last five years. And in fact it has been sitting in a(sadly, fellow knife collectors safe who left us in July of this year) since he received it from the mother ship. Anyway, here are some pictures that I have taken with my cell phone camera. Note that the handles are marked A 08. Thanks for looking and sharing in my excitement.

I have been carrying my Wilson Umnumzaan for about two months. This is by far the best Umnumzaan there is. I have had 2 other versions and the Wilson is just perfect. Can't explain it but it just feels right

I too like the WC version, but I am waiting for the right one, Old Pivot, Old gimping no LBS, NEW IN THE BOX!! Hey I can dream right!!

Just took mine down for cleaning tonight and re-tied and reinstalled the lanyard. Love this knife, especially freshly cleaned and CRK-greased.
