Hi Everybody,

Thought I was pretty good at the Busse-fu, but this has me a little baffled ?

They look like little uglies & the apprentice knives Jerry was selling about 4 years ago ?

The Apprentice knives had smooth coating if I remember correctly ??

Could these be the real deal ?

Apprentice blades IMHO.

Trading blades for tables was a common practice back in the early days.

I've seen these same blades go for $70-$90 at area shows.

looks like they are up to $335 for the pair

.
I was wondering the same, so I compared a few Li'l Ugly pictures and they don't look the same, plus they aren't probably ATS-34 since they are coated. They look to be nicely done apprentice blades. It would be cool if they were Li'l Uglies though. :(

.

They both look very much like an apprentice knife I handled a few months ago.

Just wait till you see the factory Police Recruits with micarta handles that were sold as Busse Turkey Hunters in KY or TN just a year or two later.

Plenty of early Busse knives that never got enough made to get a regular name and get widely known.

Intriguing. I have a virginal PR that is scheduled for a trip to the Krein spa for a regrind and handle job. I would love to see an original Busse version.

Am I late for this party? :D

Tanker A, Li'l Ugly and an Apprentice Blade.

Hey, I've got one of these! I didn't know that there was anything special about it, though.

Well, size wise, I guess you might as well get a AD made from INFI. :D

I know that apprentice knives aren't INFI (most are 5160, the person that sold me mine was convinced this one was D2), but are the apprentice knives heat treated?

I didn't have the apprentice knife at the time, but the other two were there. I'll bring em again next year.

While there were some Police Recruits with Factory micarta sold as Turkey Hunters, there were also a few after market addings of micarta to Police Recruits as well.

The Factory ones are good examples of Busse knife "Experiments" looking to see what sells better side by side.

To me, the Factory Micarta handled Police Recruits look alot like the much later intoduced Non Ergo Game Warden.

There are several unusual Police Recruits, among them are the Factory micarta and at least one that has four holes all the same size.

I do not remember if the factory micarta handled Police Recruits are from the 73 INFI Police Recruits made in 2001 or if they are A-2 from 1998/1999.

Some day I will get all my notes from storage and see what I can add.
