so... for anyone in the washington area i wanted to give you guys a heads up to stay away from a company called hydroslice, www.hydroslice.com

i bought a para a little bit ago but wanted to get some custom g10 scales cut for it. I met up with the guy and he seemed like a decent person. i told him what i wanted and i gave him the knife so he could use it for dimensions and such.

he quoted me 5 days he said he'd give me a call. a week passes by so i called the number on their website and a lady answers the phone "hello?". as if it was a home number or personal cell, which i have no problem with. i asked if i could leave a message for the guy and she was extremely rude. i couldnt believe how anyone could give their business phone line to someone like this.

she said she'd give him the message and he'd call me back two days pass and no call so i called again on the third day and it was the same girl who was just as rude on the phone as before. she said shed pass the message along again. but no call.

the next day i called 3 times throughout the day and left voicemails on the line. and finally i called with another phone number and what do you know... "hi this is xxx with hydroslice." he said he had been trying to get a hold of me and left voicemails on saturday and friday... rrrrrrrrrrright. kind of makes me think he is avoiding my calls for some reason.

the kicker is he said the knife did not come with g10 scales from the factory and that it was plastic. at this point if sal from spyderco said the para came with scales made from unicorn horns id be more inclined to believe that over anything anyone from hydroslice says... so im really curious to see if he is trying to swap some plasic scales on the knife and think i wont notice... we shall see come tomorrow afternoon. anyways... if anyone would like more information about them just let me know. id just say stay away from people like this.

Unless you bought a fake Para (which I doubt) they are real G10 scales.

G10 is produced by a continuous glass woven fabric impregnated with an epoxy resin binder while forming the sheet under high pressure.

So it could be "plastic" in some people's minds, but not mine.

His site doesn't look like it's at all involved in anything to do with knives. That alone would have made me stay away from having them do anything knife related.

yeah.. i gave him a call and explained what i wanted to do and he said no problem, he's done a lot of stuff like this before. but... lesson learned i suppose. from now on im only doing business with ppl from the boards.

the convenience of local shops was not worth the trouble.

You're probably better off just getting your Para back and tell the guy you no
longer request the service. Now is the time to be safe rather than lose your knife altogether.

thats exactly what i am doing. i told the guy not to bother with doing anything and i'll pick up the knife and send it off to someone more reputable (and professional.)

I am sick and tired of these crooks out there who do things like this to people. That is a complete insult to your intelligence for him to tell you that there is plastic scales on your para. If he expects you to believe some crap like that then he is an idiot. If I were you i'd get that knife back from him ASAP. Let us know if he tries to switch out the scales with some plastic crap, and thanks for the heads up on that business.

Did you get your Para back? What did you decide to do with it?
