I'm using a Sharpmaker to try to sharpen my Recon Scout and Trail Master, but I am not getting a burr. I'm quite sure I'm hitting the edge because I'm using a marker. Following the instructions, the end result is a toothy and sharp feeling edge that slices well, but can hardly push cut and shave. This is after going through the fine stones with very light passes at the end. Shouldn't I be getting a nice polished edge?
Do I need to be raising a burr or is there something else I should be doing?
I get a decent working edge that slices through paper cleanly for such thick knives, but I want to take my sharpening skills to the next level and put nice polished edges on but I can't seem to do it if my life depended on it. I'm really thinking about getting an Edge Pro. The video on their website makes it look so easy. I can get softer steel like the 440A in my Leek to pushcut printer paper about a cm away from hold using 40 degrees, but maybe I'm just not doing something right for the harder Carbon V?
How do you guys get such nice edges with a Sharpmaker? Thanks in advance.
