so excited! Finally got the bk2 that I was waiting and saved dilligently for ;)

thing is definitely beastly, problem though, the saber grinds? The ones that stop about an inch or so from the tip are a little over a quater inch off, I know it's a tool but the symmetry is wayy off and it's driving me nuts, also the tip got too much paint and is sligtly rounded and the entire spine has like dimples/waves in the paint on one side not the other =(

just don't want to have to send it to amazon, then wait then hope it gets taken care of.

will kabar take care of this if I contact them directly?

moose or any of the other great beckerheads would love your thougts

sorry no pics right now, lady has camera and is out of town

It's a solid, but an inexpensive knife. F&F won't be top notch, but it'll definitely get the job done!

Post up some pics of those grinds, and we'll see. The last few times I have seen this, its the paint, not the metal grinds. Fit and finish are usually quite good, but I'm not sure without seeing it.

I know what Ethan likes and that doesn't sound like it. If the grinds are off as much as you say (I have no reason to doubt you), then I'm sure Kabar will take care of you.

Did you get it from Amazon or a vendor of Amazon? You might want to contact them first and see what they say the turn around would be on it, if you send it in. If not, I got one here I will send you, its used, but you can keep it until you get yours back.

All the Beckerheads will be along shortly to direct you; Moose, 'The Man' himself Ethan Becker, Bladite, Guyon, Flexxx, possibly Toooj. As you can see, this will become a group effort, it's a Beckerhead thing that you will come to understand.

I just looked at mine, looks like it is off a bit as well. Measured edge of each grind off the back of the spine and its a difference of about 1/8". I am not really that concerned about it, I am sure its pretty difficult to get the grinds to match perfectly at the factory.

But if it does concern you, then the top Becker Heads on this forum will be able to help you out.

I agree, mine looked a bit "off" grind also until i stripped it. It was a great grind no problem.

I've read that some of Amazon's Beckers are like that. My 9 seemed fine, so I ordered a 7, 2, and 11 from them recently, and they should be arriving this Wednesday. If any are off, I'll update this thread.

I've not seen one with this issue but would like to.
Maybe you could take a piece of chalk (that washes off) and mark on the spine where each grind appears to end.
Then, just take a pic of the spine.

I had a Busse that was way off in that regard. It wasn't coated.
Busse took care of it promptly and corrected the grind.
I expect Kabar will take care of you in similar fashion.

My Amazon Becker was like that as well. However, it still cuts, so I saw no reason to return it.

My first BK2 was like that (ordered from Amazon). Then I stripped it and polished it. Still looks a little off but still cuts like a dream. Bought my second BK2 (again from Amazon) and the grinds looked better. I totally understand what you're feeling though if it wasn't a little off I wouldn't have tried to strip it. I'm kind of a perfectionist so every little scratch that was on my first coating strip i kept polishing. Probably have done it 3x already. Still not happy with it :P But I'm sure Ka-bar will take care of you. Out of all the complaints that have been posted on the forum Tooj or Ethan himself have attended to them. Its nice to know that there are still people who take pride in their product.

well, going to need pictures. find a buddy. get good light. click click...

in the meantime, you could try touching up the factory edge, strop it, including "polishing" the paint, esp near the tip and giving it a once over with some scotch bright. you might find it's just the paint.

i'm wondering when they coat these things, if they're doing a candle dip, point down, and there's some run off drippage going on.

getting the coatings PERFECT is a hard task. coatings come, coatings go, you get out some spray paint...

Great shot of the polished blade. I may do that after I'm finished stripping. Looks GREAT!

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love this knife, and the paint on the spine is just how it dried no worries. I was afraid it was the steel.

As for the grinds and how the points are off, well like the above I am a perfectionist, and I know it wont affect how it cuts, every time I use it I know I am gonna home in on the difference in symmetry =(

Moose your a rare breed man, but dont want to take your bk2, I do appreciate it though.

Hoping Tooj or Ethan can weigh in, or do you guys just recommend an email to kabar?

for the record, it was directly from amazon, not a vendor. I hate doing returns...

Wow. I was going to offer to straighten it up and convex it for you, but that trumps my weak stuff. You can't beat that from the man himself.

Ethan thank you very much! See what they say about becker over on the ESEE forums isnt all true! ;)

Seriously though thank you, I appreciate it.

Tradewater- Damn descent of you, thanks very much.

I'm betting Toooj will probably just want it back without photos, but you have us all really curious. Since your lady is out of town with the camera, and it sounds like you don't have a cell phone with camera, or a scanner, here's another idea. Most of us ship UPS or FedEx via their storefronts. Maybe you could convince them that you'll be using them to return the knife to Kabar, but need closeup photos of each side to send in to get an RMA number from Kabar. If they would use their scanners, or just a employee's cellphone camera, and then email you the files, you'll use them to ship it back. Just thinking out loud, and I know that usually gets me in trouble. But what the heck, call one of them up and ask. Don't even waste the gas driving over there until someone says they'll do it for you.

I had a one day turn around time with Amazon.
They sent me a replacement product first, then I returned the one with the defect.

Here are some pics of mine. Its kind of hard to see the grinds in the pic, but those chalk marks are definetly where the grind hits the spine. The difference is about 1/8".

I also noticed that the grind seem to be different at the base of the profile. I measured about where the bottom of the handle screw was pernedicular with the grind. Please note I measured from the 50ths scale on the top image and the 100ths scale on the bottom image so the the ruler edge would not mask the corner of the grind on the opposite sides measurement.

The right side is about .22 from the edge of the handle.

The left side is about .16 from the edge of the handle.

I also noticed that the rear edge of the grind seems to slant slightly foward on the right side, and the left is slightly slanted back, but the choil is nice and even. I glanced at some other BK2's in the Becker Photo thread and noticed that the grind edges were slanted the same way.

But as I said before, its not that big of a deal to me. It still cuts, and thats what really matters. Just thought you guys would like to see some pictures.

goose thank you for the pictures, thay gap is about the same on mine maybe a little longer, I also noticed the tip is bent slightly, thought maybe moose was rigt and the paint was gobbed but definitely slightly bent tip.

I'll get pictures tomorrow
