so i hope this is o.k. it's a Stainless/ Geo. Schrade/Knife Co Inc/B'T'P.Conn. knife with a sliding tab to lock and unlock the blade in both open and closed positions. the handle says "G. Schrade's/Stainless Steel/Hunting and Fishing/Knife with a moose scene and a marlin scene.
any info ? was this a common one or a bit unusual ? probable age ? thanks, roland (delete if inappropriate)

George Schrade was a prolific inventor and one of the founders of Schrade Cut Co. The George Schrade Cutlery Co. is a defacto part of Schrade history and we, or at least I, accept the Geo. Schrade knives as belonging to the Schrade heritage. I have several of George's fixed blades in my collection.

This pattern has been discussed here, though I don't personally remember all the details. Try forum search of Geo or Fish. I remember there were some knockoffs of this knife seen as well.

It is a Schrade in my book. I've been wanting to pick one up for a while now. I think several manufactures of the time produced them. There is some good info on them here in Forum, if you can just figure out the search function.

thanks Codger; an old post from '04 (in which you say how confusing you find the history of Schrade/Ulster?Taylor. etc., and now folks turn to you for the most specific of information ! a lotta work in 3 years !)
anyway, pics. are now deleted, but from text i gather that mine is authentic, made prior to '45 when Boker took over Geo. Schrade and the same knife was still made but with "Boker Tree Brand" on blade. later knockoffs from Japan had reversed the handle scene and had identifying tang stamps "Scotchline".
so, sharpen it up and go fishin (i can see the lake from here, over top my computer screen) roland

There is a link below to a web site that talks mainly about Schrade Wirejack knives, sixth paragraph up from the bottom before the pictures of tang stamps, also mentions a little about the Schrade Hunting and fishing knife and the sell out to Boker, the link would also be of interest to some who collect the Wirejack knives, I'm sure some have seen it before.
