WOW.....I was really looking forward to receiving this knife but after I did, I regretted my purchase.

No gimping on the lock...?? Are you kidding me :thumbdn: Hell I don't have little girly hands and takes way too much time trying to get the lock disengaged. Heck if your gonna build a knife with no gimping on the liner lock at least cove the opposite side... Also there is a nice little annoying rattle sound when the blade is open. Liners need to be sanded smooth around the edges too. They are not even close to being uniform.

I believe the word you're looking for is jimping, if you're unhappy with your purchase can't you just return it? Kershaw has a great reputation and I'm sure they'd do their best to make you happy if something is wrong with your knife but if it just doesn't meet your needs why not return it?
Best of luck.

I got the Packrat yesterday. I bought a used one from another site. I agree with your point, that the linelock i hard to disengage. I dont think that the problem is the lack of jimping, but rather that theres too little of the liner exposed, making it hard for my thumb to push it back into place. It is near impossible to do so wiht gloves on.

Yes, mine rattles a tiny bit too when its open. I belive it is the unloaded spring that produced the noise. Theres nothing to be heard when its closed, probably because the spring is under tension. Its nothing that bothers me though and it has no effect whatsoever on the knifes performance.

My liners need no form for sanding. They are even, flush and uniform.

the rattling can be stopped but disassembling the knife and adding some grease to the torsion bar cavity

I also recently picked up a packrat. I agree on the lock being difficult to disengage, however mine is already starting to break in. I have no doubt that in time it will be no problem. The other gripe I have is the non-fuctional thumb studs, so I actually punched them out and am gonna put a zip tie wave deal on it haha. Besides these points, I really like the knife, and certainly for $30 it is worth the money. Don't regret it at all.

/e As an update, don't take the thumb stud out of this knife. The Packrat uses the thumbstud as a stop when closed so the blade will hit the back spacer without it. Took me a little bit to figure this out, no harm done though thankfully.

I have a lot of Extrema Ratio knives and they purposely tuck away the liner lock so that it is very difficult to accidentally disengage the lock while using them. Personally, I like a liner lock that is designed this way. I feel safer when making heavier cuts.

wow dude....its a $30 knife not a custom and not a Chris Reeve. Just sayin'

if you got the orange handled one I'll buy it from you
