Well, after over a two year moratorium on new knife purchases, I proudly took a big leap today.

Purchased a new (2/2004) large classic Sebenza with B&W ladder Damascus and cocobolo inlays. I'm really excited about getting this knife (as you can tell)!

Has it been so long that you forgot there was a Blade discussion forum ;) :p :D ?

Sounds like you made up for the lost time with this one--looking forward to the pics.

You got it, ZENG...I forgot mostly out of shame that I had nothing new to offer over there! But I do now!

I've been just hanging out in community because these are my kind of guys here. Talk about making up for lost time...woo hoo!

I bet that felt good. But how in the world did you stand a 2 year moratorium?
Lokking forward to seeing the pix.

How the hell did you manage to post and read posts and still avoid buying knives for 2 years???

I can understand if you weren't a member of bladeforums but people talking about knives and gadgets ... it's too bloody tempting.

Right now i feel like a 'need' a new fixed blade but don't have the cash since i just spent some stuff on maxpedition gear and bought a sky+ receiver.

SEBENZA...yummy...

Hi,
What is the fascination with the sebenza's? Do you guys really use them?
They are very pretty, but there are a lot of knives out there.
When I am feeling dressy, I carry a Queen MOP or Abalone knife. I rotate different patterns.
When I ride my bike or drive my truck I carry Spyderco, Benchmade, Microtech, Mikov, Hubertus, or CRKT among others.
At work I carry a nonthreatening Swiss Army.

What is the fascination with the Ferraris? Do you guys really drive them?
They are very pretty, but there are a lot of cars out there, Fords, Chevvies, Fiats, Yugos ...

Indeed...they are THE production folder Ferarri. Don't know how much argument you'll find there...espescially from people who have owned a variety of high-end folders.

Esav,
What I meant was, EVERYBODY seems to have one. I have been reading these posts for a while. Everybody has one, or wants one. Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porshes, there are more than one fast car. I was being serious. Why a Sebenza? What do you do with it that ONLY a sebeza will do?
Regards,
Mike

I used to think the same thing you do. Regular, non auto folders, don't do that much for me. I recently got a Sebenza and it's everything you've read that it is. It's well made, very solid and the blade is all business. You can tell right off with this knife that it is made for one reason only...to work hard. This is really refreshing for me because my usual carry knives are all MT automatics and as nice as MT knives are they do sacrifice some of the Sebenzas hard working ability to have the auto function. In fact the Sebenza makes all my other folders look a little weak and under built. For the first time in a long time I'm carrying a non auto.

Hi Guys,
I don't think that I have been clear enough. Why ONLY the Sebenza. I'm sure that it is a great knife. But it can't be the only one. What about William Henry knives? They are beautifull. There are a multitude of others. I saw the Jones brothers at the Salem Va. gun and knife show. They had a titanium handled folder that was built like a tank. It was 2 days before Xmas so I couldn't afford it, but I did buy one of their fixed blades. It is my exclusive backup knife.
I know you guys are going to say that WH knives are not as sturdy as the Seb, but why use a folder for exteme work?
I know, I know, I know, IT'S A GREAT KNIFE!!!!!
BUT NOT THE ONLY ONE!
Oh, forget it, buy what you want. It is a very good knife.
Mike
