But a PROTOTYPE BM 47Blk!!!

I passed on the 47A and I was waiting for either the regular handle or the black handle. The black handle model was available to me first so I put in my order. To my surprise, I opened the package to see the "Prototype" sticker on the box. I opened it up to see the words "Prototype" over "June 2001" on the blade. I missed out on the "Tanto Introduction" but I am sad no more!

The handles are very loose on this one. I am going to need to tighten them up a little but overall I am VERY pleased. The blade is beautiful and I like the black coating on the handles. It gives the bali a nice feel and grip.
 
You lucky dog!!! I got an email from Roberta De Asis and she said they only made 10 protos of the 43 and the 47!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek: :eek: :eek:
 
ONLY TEN??!! WOW, I really scored on this one!

I went out and bought the "Blue Box" tool kit today and tightened up the handles. When I attempted to tighten up the latch, the bit twisted! The screw is not stripped, but the bit now is! The handles are fine now, but there is still a lot of play in the latch. Has anyone attempted to put some washers in the latch?
 
Prototype! :eek: How did that happen!? Wait, how much is that thing worth? And how much did you pay?

Oh yea, and you probably used up your life time supply of good luck on that one, so... I'd be carefull if I were you! :D
 
I don't know how it happened, but I got it. I contacted an online retailer, placed my order, paid regular price, opened the package and saw the words "Prototype" staring my in the face!
 
only ten made per model?!!? Lucky! :p I got one too! Just my luck that I lucked out on a tanto.. anyone have a bowie proto they want to trade :p

S.! Where the Sam Hill you been? Work about to drive you nuts, or what? :D

I don't have a 43 proto, but I finally DID get a 42, and a Balisong Xtreme horizontal belt sheath. Had to drop it a set of holes to get it out of my stomach. :D Anyway, welcome back.
 
hunting for prototypes keeps me busy I guess :p at any rate job search took a lot out of me and I made the DAMN mistake of buying a PS2. I guess that's nuff said.
 
Why do you want prototypes? Isn't that a bad thing? like "not finished" ? like subject to change? subject to being improved upon?
 
grr. only ten... they must have aimed the protos at you guys, because it certainly seems coincidental that two showed up here at bfc right away. nice, though. :)

Well, S., looks like no one has come up with any 21's. :( I'd like to have just one of them, even if it's just to start a collection. :D
 
I talked to an authority on the subject today. There were fifty of those Tanto unnumbered prototypes made for inside use. They were accidentally shipped to dealers.

Still, a nice collectible indeed.
