October is my favorite month, fall my favorite season. I was reminded of a post i saw in the creepy stories thread, in which a man stumbled across the cut off head of a black lab pup, which if i remember correctly was placed on a pole. There are some sick p-o-s's out there. Keep your animals safe, especially if they are outside. People have been known to snatch dogs and cats this time of year, and to toss them ground meat laced with rat poison. Even cattle and horses have been reported as ritually victimized. I just earlier read reports of two high school girls shoving a kitten into a microwave (and yes they turned it on!), and a boy..just a BOY hanging and gutting puppies...he even posted it in facebook I read.

Gotta keep your trail buddies safe!

Just googled it...wow...thats just lousy, sick, demented, cruel, and wrong. No dog should ever have to suffer. Id love to have a pitbull.

Got help the individual that attempts to hurt my kids. Because my dogs are my family.

Yep, we have a Pit and he really is the nicest dog - especially compared to my Blue Heeler I had for 13years. She would rip a strangers face off if they got too close to me without my acknowledgement. In fact, I took our families pitbull to my boy's soccer game today and he terrorized everyone with a thorough hand-licking - kids especially - gentleness personified.

So, yeah, if someone comes to put the hurt on him for the "kill a pitbull day" they're gonna have a hard time with the 230gr +P hollow-point "Jack-O-Lantern Treats" my P220 offers up. That or 8x 12ga 1 1/2oz rifled "pumpkins" - I'm egalitarian, ecumenical and equally qualified with all the "treat dispensers" I possess.

For the last 20-odd years I've lived a changed life with no violence initiated on my part - love your neighbor and all that. However, I've no grace for Satanists or other cruel-to-animal types (especially those animals which live in my domicile) and they will receive the full, unabated natural consequence for their attempted actions (gotta love the castle doctrine).

While there ARE people that kill animals, it's not tied to any ritual I know of, nor is it focused on Halloween. It's a common urban legend that pets on Halloween are taken and sacrificed, but there's no evidence to substantiate it. Check Snopes.com if you don't take my word for it. On the subject of cattle and horses, those "ritual killings" are largely the work of predators and vermin working on animals that died of natural causes or were killed by predators.

You might be interested to know that the Church of satan doesn't actually believe in the devil. They are an entirely irreligious organization and basically get into it for the sake of theatrics. They do not actually sacrifice animals or people, nor are they dangerous in any way. I'm not siding with them, I don't especially like them as it happens, but they are not guilty of the actions stated in this thread.

Everybody relax, your pets and children are in no widespread or credible danger. Sit back, have some cider, watch your favorite scary movie, and have a happy Halloween.

Ritually victimized horses was an article i found on google. Im mainly talking about mean spirited folks lol, not so much 'cultists'. Just mean natured farts. :-) i never said satanists, i was refering to an article, bc it surprised me anyone would mess with a HORSE..i got kicked once, I know how powerful they are.

Yeah, the people that do that generally have some serious mental issues to sort out. It's a lack of empathy, very creepy.

Several of the other incidents you mention happened, yes, but they happened at different times of the year, and some are several years old. They are usually dredged back up due to the highly disturbing nature of the crime, and what we learned about the kind of sick freak that does this from those incidents.

I'm not scolding you or anybody else, and I apologize if I came across as such. All I was trying to do was set people at ease and let them know that Halloween is perfectly safe, and they can just relax and have a nice time. :)

Around here the SPCA will not adopt out black cats around Halloween. Too many sickos out there messing with them.

No worries and you didnt :-). Halloween is safe as any holiday, just some here and there get a lil' too..uh..'ghoulish'. I was also speaking on prior things i have seen and been through and wont talk about. :-) Your replies were done very well.

^ I hadn't ever heard of that before, so I called the local animal shelters to ask about it. I figured they would know, and, indeed, they did. We too have that policy, and I was able to learn the reasons for it. People either kill them because their cereal was demanding a sacrifice or they buy them as decorations and then abandon them.

So yeah, looks like the halt on adoptions of black cats is a good call.

Told ya so. Usually its mean spirited folks grabbing them up for a temporary use, and then out to the curb. I like black chitty chats myself, and see no sense in old wives tells of them. Poor lil chitty chats!

^ I can go over the origins of the black cats are unlucky myth if you really want, as I DO know the origins of that.

Yeah, that's what I was told. Poor things, I can't imagine using a living animal as a decoration, it just seems to fly in the face of everything I hold ethical.

What are the origins? Black cats are my favorite.

I agree, I had one years ago on the farm, he was like tiny angry panther...:thumbup::thumbup:

Lol..reminds me of Maven, my black kitty with blue eyes. She was a nightmare in the dark, never knew when or where she would attack. Not to mention the times she would, while purring like a race car engine, climb up my legs and up my back....painful but cute.

Goes back to the early days in the church in Europe. People back then were not as understanding of the world as we are today, they believed in magic, demons, spirits, and witches. The black cat thing comes from a belief held by witch-hunters of the time, in a thing called a "Familiar". Basically a familiar was a demon or spirit or what have you that either took the form of an animal or possessed one.

Cats were commonly thought to be familiars due to their silent movement, high intellect, and nocturnal habits. Black cats were nearly invisible in the dark, and since they were the color of darkness, it was thought they were ALWAYS a sign of an evil spirit, demon, or familiar. This was HARDLY explusive to cats, toads, dogs, snakes, birds, ANY animal that happened to be nearby a "Witch" would be cited as a familiar.

Worth noting, in much of Asia the opposite belief was held. WHITE cats were the ones to be feared. White, to many asian cultures, signifies emptiness, a lack of a soul, death, or all of the above. White cats, and white animals in general, were often held to be something supernatural, usually a type of Vampire or Succubus.

As an interesting aside, in Egypt, all cats were treated as royalty, but black cats ESPECIALLY so. Most Egyptian cats were sandy colored, but black cats were rare, and sometimes, they were treated as avatars of the great goddess of cats, Bast. They also venerated them because to Egyptians, black was the color of good soil for farming.
