Not made of money :P so which blade would you recommend?

I have been looking into purchasing a new fixed blade. I've narrowed down my choices to three blades. The Cold Steel SRK, the kabar D2 extreme fighting knife, or the SOG Vulcan. While I would love to purchase all three :D I do not have that kind of money. I'm looking for a tactical knife for a potential combat situation. Not that I plan to start fighting people with knives haha. More of a "just in case" kind of thing. Which would you recommend? If you have other recommendations feel free to share them :)

I thought if I went with Kabar I may get the D2 because of the different steel

if you are great at sharpening steel, especially hard ones, this is not the knife for you.

that being said i really like the one i had before i swapped it for an F1

i mean if you have the extra money, go for it, but in my opinion you shouldn't spend lots of money on something you'lll probably never use

I may appear biased but I suggest the SRK :D
All joking aside it's a great knife and very popular
I've watched that knife being tested many times and it's a beast
The AUS8A version is affordable and very durable. Easy to re-sharpen in the field and it takes a great edge.
I like it a lot :)

The regular kabar 1211, or Kabar heavy bowie would be my vote.

Don't look at tacticoolity! Seriously, you sound like you don't have money to throw around. For more useful blades I'd suggest Becker bk16 or Ontario RD4.

Out of those three knives, I would probably go with the SRK. The Vulcan is a whacky tanto, hollow ground (which I don't like) and there are much better knives in its price range. The D2 Ka-Bar is pretty good, the serrations are pretty much the only thing I don't like and the stock leather sheath isn't very good (you can get synthetic sheaths from Ka-Bar). The SRK is the cheapest of the three, comes in decent steel for its intended use, has a good sheath and holds up very well.

If you're open to other options, take a look at Becker knives. They are affordable, tough, made from good carbon steel in the US by Ka-Bar.

Kabar in D2 out of those is what i would say i would agree and suggest taking a look at the Becker line by kabar

CS SRK IMO great overall knife, quick in hand, thick blade, good factory sheath, and it's alot of knife for the size.

Also the Ka bar Bk 5 is a way underrated knife light, tough, and it's an awesome slicer stabber. Also very good if used in a combat/fighting situation. Good luck with your purchase.

Of the three you mentioned I would say "None of the above".

The only one I would consider is the Ka-Bar in D2. I have handeled this knife and liked it but I do not trust Ka-Bar in the D2 world. I truse Bob Dozer with D2 but very few others.

I mysekf would get a Ka-Bar USMC before any of the ones you mentioned but if you have the money I would go Fallkniven A1. Until you really study Fallkniven you will not understand but once you do you will realize that its their world and everybody else is just wanabees.

Yep.

ANY BK&T blade. BK9 is my go-to large blade. You simply can NOT, NOT have a BK9 at some point in your life. Any Ontario Ranger RD series knife. RD4 & RD6 are my favorites from Ontario.

Of the three you mention, the SRK is the way to go. I'm a long way from being a fan of Cold Steel knives but my hunting buddy has the SRK and it's not bad. As mentioned the AUS8A steel sharpens easily and it's a useful size. A lot depends on your budget though. The Fallkniven S1 and slightly larger A1 are far better blades and trump the SRK hands down. You might also want to consider the ESEE-4, SOG Northwest Ranger, or Becker BK 15/16/17.

If you really are serious about having that style of knife for the 'just in case' situation though, and have a limited budget I personally think you can't beat the venerable Buck Nighthawk. It's pretty purpose specific, whereas the others mentioned will serve you well as general bushcraft/survival/camp knives.

Here are two Nighthawks alongside a Ka-bar USMC (which I sold in favour of a Becker BK-7)

Of the three options given I wouldick the SRK with the Kabar being a close second.

Other suggestions would be a Spyderco Street Bowie which is designed with martial blade craft in mind. It's a bit smaller and not quite as robust as something like the SRK, but it is a much better slicer, is very secure and comfortable in hand, and carries very easily due to it's extremely light weight. It can be had for around $85-90 if you shop around a bit.

If you want something heavier and more robust take a look at the BlackJack Tac Ops series. 1095 steel, micarta scales, and kydex sheaths for $115-150 shipped depending on which knife and which options you pick. They have some tactical flair, but will also function as solid camp knives so they can save you some cash by being good all-rounders.

Another possibility is the Condor Toloza. More affordable than the other options, it should only run you about $60. The sheath is leather rather than kydex or FRN, but it's a very nice inexpensive option.

Others have already mentioned Beckers, but it's worth repeating as they are a great option.

The SRK by a wide margin. If you owned all three, you would eventually find yourself reaching for the SRK more often, I guarantee you. The Ka Bar is a great knife, but the handle and guard design will eventually annoy you if you are using it regularly to do anything besides hand-to-hand combat with the Viet Cong. As for SOG, SOG sucks and everyone knows it.
