Not my first gun (and way cooler than Sam's new .22, *GRIN*)

My most recent firearm, a vintage Thompson, was a gift from my father.

He occasionally carried one while enlisted in the SAC during the war in Vietnam and is very partial to them. He was involved in pilot retrieval. His was a proper SMG, so it was a bit different. I figure it will be a handy around-the-yard carbine in .45 ACP.

I saw all these "gun posts", I couldn't resist... :D

tommies are nice, but HEAVY for what they are. That's nice on full auto but annoying the rest of the time. When I lived in Pittsburgh I used the full auto one my range had, it was a fun way to blow a bunch of money on ammo real fast now and then.

Even the semi auto ones are a beautiful piece of functional history.

Tommies came with a 20,30,50 and 100 round mags !! Use the 100 rnd mag if you want heavy !! The drum mags were not very reliable.
I knew a fellow who had gone through France in WWII with one .Always set on full auto he could fire as many rounds as he wanted , that's how skilled you could become with daily use.
The Thompson and the BAR were developed for WWI 'trench sweeping ' use. The Springfield '03 MARK I semi-auto attachment had the same use.
