Not quite sure what to buy next.

I've been buying/selling/trading knives for around 3-4 years now, and I've gone through many knives, mostly higher-end production. Took some time off from this hobby for a bit, and now I'm looking for another good carry piece.

I'm going to spend around $250-300 or so (first knife with a price tag this high), but after searching around for a bit, I'm not sure what to buy.

I was originally going to pick up a Sebenza, until I figured that I could pick up a new/used custom for maybe another bill. And then I figured, well, maybe I don't need a knife quite so expensive, and maybe I could buy a couple high-end productions. Not sure which route I want to go.

At the moment, I'm carrying a BM Ares that I've extensively reprofiled (big fan of the AXIS lock), and it'll be my beater for a while, also have a Pacific Salt and a Griptilian left after selling off most of my collection.

So I'm looking for a folder that's durable, cuts well/versatile blade shape, has a strong lock, has impeccable fit and finish, and maybe a little flair on the side.

I'm also looking for a small fixed blade, most likely going to end up being the BRKT Mini/Mikro Canadian.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Well, if you don't have a Sebenza, this might be the time to get one, if for no other reason than to see what all the fuss is about. You can get a very nice used Sebbie on the exchange forums in your indicated price range.

With regard to customs, there are many fine knives in the $400 range, so many that I hesitate to recommend this or that maker in particular. Look around, see what strikes your fancy, use the BF search function, and I'm sure you'll find something that you'll be pleased with.

One of the various Benchmade 960s with the exotic inserts might fit the bill nicely (mother of pearl, blackwood, rosewood, etc).

If I could get one for that I would get a Kit Carson Mod 4. It's a nice knife and Mr Carson is a h*ll of a nice guy. :D

I second the strider, they may not cut as well as a Sebenza, but they are a hell of a lot tougher! And to me they look a lot better.

Yep... I never found a Buck I liked so, what is so great about the Buck Juno? Please give a review or at least some user comments! I might even buy one..who knows. :barf:

so how bout that juno?

well first of all its only 15 dollars :D . Its not the best knife but it is pretty good for the price. Easy to open. strong lock. Decent blde.

You could try to find one of the discontinued SpeedTechs - production, but they're oh so smooth. Nice lock, too.

As for flash, what's flashier than being able to say "even if you had money, you couldn't get one of these babies?"

And they come in all sorts of neat colors. If you can find one.

(Sorry, wasn't much help. But if I had that kind of money to spend, it's what I'd do.)

You won't go wrong with either a Sebenza or a Strider SnG. Both are great for pocket EDC. The SnG is as rugged as a folder gets.

If you can afford a Sebenza or a Strider SNG or SMF, I would say go for those. They're all workhorses, and retain their value in the long run. I can't wait to get one for myself :).

BRKT makes a nice knife. Another choice (if you're willing to spend more $$$) is a Dozier Straight Personal. I have one and I really like it a lot, and you can get one pretty quick from A.G. Russell. I think a Krein TK-3 might be worth considering as well - I haven't personally handled one but I have one coming soon. Looks like a great little knife.

i agree with everyone who recommended the Sebanza or Strider SnG. both are excellent blades. i've owned both. The SnG never leaves my side. i had a small Sebenza and it was too small. i keep thinking i'll get a large one of the days but ever since i got my SnG i don't really shop around much :-)

there's nothing wrong with checking out some customs or trying something different. i've just found that the Sebenza and SnG's are so popular because their designs are incredibly thoughtful and useful. i consider both very near perfect designs.

as always, it's all preference. check some stuff out if you can. enjoy the hunt for the ultimate knife!!!

Another option is to join in some of the passarounds and check out those knives. Lots of Spydercos right now, but right now there are a few CRK and Strider passarounds and lotteries.
