Not real happy.....with myself

Ughhhhh. So not happy right now. I have been waiting to purchase a box elder mnandi with damascus blade. The reason I have been waiting is I want a piece that has a large concentration of red in it. Well, low and behold I find the grail of box elder ive been looking for. So once I have the funds in order I place my order and buy it from a large and reputable dealer. Today I open the box, and my box elder is plain light tan with small birds eyes, and not a single speck of red. So I go back to the website to see if the one I wanted is still there, and what do I see.........small print. (Photos are representative of natural handle material) Are you kidding me??? There are so few of these knives out there, that you usually are buying the knife you see. Ugghhhh so mad at myself. I got caught up in the glitz and glamour that I failed to read the fine print. I expect that bladeHQ buys huge quantities and that its not the knife you see, but this other dealer I buy from often, and its always the knife you see. Well up until now. :(

Bummer man. I asked one of the big sites if they would take pictures of the actual knife I would get, and to my surprise they did. Maybe they will get you some pictures of stock in hand for an exchange. Good luck.

That sucks! In the future you could tell the dealer what you want and to send pics if they have something close.

Edit: Looks like Jacob beat me to the advice...LOL

did you ask about returning it? just wondering what the policy is when you don't like a knife you get from a dealer............

Exactly, I would be sending it back for a different knife if your not happy with your purchase. These knives are not cheap and I feel the buyer should be happy with purchase.

Unfortunately they were closed when I got home today. My wife signed for it, and I called once I got home. I left a message, and will see what transpires. Worst comes to worse, and I will sell it on the exhange, I am sure someone will love the knife. I would probably take a small loss. Im ok with that as I already know of 4 other knives I want to buy LOL. If they tell me I am SOL then I guess it will be time for a good bad ugly thread, and I will no longer be purchasing from them. My guess is, that they will give me store credit, and allow me to return it.

Pretty sure I know who you are talking about, their initials are KA. You have seven business days to contact them and arrange for returning the knife. They will give you store credit, I don't believe they have a restocking fee.
They always use stock photos of the nicest inlays, very misleading IMO. I've contacted them in the past and they have sent cell phone pics of the actual knife in stock.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear this, you are not alone - happened to me too.
Today it's a nice user! I've learned a lesson, that you often just see what you want to see.
These days I try to look harder and even now it happens that I miss a detail.
I hope this works out for you.

Most dealers of UG and wood inlay Sebenzas post pictures of the actual knife. I think too many people here are too quick to criticize dealers but in your case I truly don't think you should have to read the fine print for a knife of that type that sells at that price point. I also applaud your not naming the dealer until they've had a chance to respond. I hope this gets resolved quickly and to your complete satisfaction. Let us know...

I do find it refreshing when the dealer, no matter which brand knife your buying, indicates that this is the actual knife your purchasing.

You see it on eBay a lot. That fine print that says the picture is just representative of the item for sale. Pass.

Thanks.....Well hopefully I will get a response from the dealer tonight, and get a store credit. Their policy states if you are unhappy you have 7 days to return the knife for a full refund, but store credit is preferred. Im hoping they just have a really nice example I can exchange this for.

Ok update......Got a call from the dealer. They are emailing me a return label, and will call me once they receive it, and will send me pictures of available knives that I can exchange it for, or receive a store credit.

That sounds like a solid path to resolution, I hope you're able to get one with the coloration you're after. I've lusted after a Mnandi for some time now, very nice blades.

BladeHQ is one the big boys. I'd push for a full refund, small print or not. I'd be surprised if they don't step up. Store credit...really?

It wasn't bladehq.....mentioned them only as I would expect stock photos from them.

Not perfect, but good. You treated them very nicely - most people would have named & flamed here first then contacted the dealer... :(

My take. I would've placed this in the Feedback forum since the "Unhappy Not real happy." subject line may lead some to reflect unnecessarily and negatively on CRK. It's really a dealer "issue" and I agree that each individual variation should be pictured by the dealers and the disclaimer in BIG fonts.

Fair enough... I retitled the post :)
