Hardwood, green and black cotton, epoxy and wax. I'm not done sanding, but got antsy so I waxed it.

They're still a little blocky, but you can get a pinky on them. Well, "it", since it is actually one piece. I made kydex fillers like the Izula uses, which are placed in the holes as I slide the knife into the one piece scale, then push the standoffs through and insert screws.

I may try the same with the BK24 and some micarta. I like the design since it isn't permanent, but radically changes the grip. My little Necker is now functionally more similar to an ESEE 3.

BTW, that blade finish is how the BK11 looked after chemically stripping the paint. It is actually a nicer stonewash than the D'eskabar.

but...but....what have you done with the survival opener?!?

JK. That is the nicest non-destructive 11 mod I have seen, and very well executed to boot. Clever idea as well, getting more real estate without welding or grinding. Likey.

Yes, that is a BK24 wearing BK16 scales.

I first saw this in the Handle Mods thread but it needs something to fill the 5/32" gap and to stabilize it. Which is where the plastic cutting board comes in.

I'll be starting a separate thread for this after I do some prototyping. Of course, any and all input will be greatly appreciated. ;)

Travish,

I honestly think you'll make just as a big an effort adapting BK16 grips as you would simply starting from scratch - and the results won't come out as well. "Grivory" does not stick to epoxy well or look very good when you grind it. Just get some 3/16 wood or micarta and do it right. There are lots of ways of both shaping and creating mounting hardware - many of which are very low tech to do at home.

This one was easier to make, but I like it much better:

The wrap around base makes a second screw unnecessary.

Lookin' good man. A guy here on the forum, CreakyBones, made, and gifted this 11 to me. It's Yew wood. I love it:

Looks good. I like the option of the removable scales. I need to make some scales for my 11 but with a 24 on the way I may have to try it first.

To me, the whole point of the 11 and 14 is the ability to use them with our without scales, depending on how you are carrying at the time. And if you can get a full grip, that seems more worthwhile than just fattening up the the undersized grip. The Izula II's extended handle is testament to the problem with short handles, but you do lose compactness. This way you get it both ways.

My 24 will be here in a few days with any luck. Never held one but I'm sure it will be good for now until I get something on the handle. I like the idea of a thin knife in a pocket sheath in my front left, the 24 should fit fine either way.
