I have a pair of boots that have the top 3 sets of 'eyelets' are the speedlace hooks. I want to cut them off and replace them with regular eyelets, and I want to do it as cheaply as possible (without buying leatherworking tools, etc)

I'm thinking I can cut the hooks out with a pipe nipple with the outer edge of one end ground down to make a sharpened, hollow punch and with a piece of 2x4 under it just punch cut them out.

My question is the replacement eyelets. Where to buy them and how to set them? I don't expect them to look factory, I'm happy with function over form.

Any ideas??

Most hardware and craft store sells eyelet kits which include the setting tools.
