So i know there are tons of these threads, but i will post it regardless.

I am thinking of buying one of the following. Strider Sng, BM710 or a PM2

I like the overall look of the sng, and from what i have read its amazing. Although even with the new lockup i am still worried that a 400$ knife will quickly wear away at the lock bar and develop play.

The PM2 doesn't really need explaining, it has some of the same features as the sng but is also cheaper.

The BM710 has always intrigued me but i am not sure how the axis lock will hold up to hard use(not sure why i feel that way)

I only want to get one for now. It will fit into my harder use knives, most of mine now are all under 3in and i feel like i need something a bit larger. I know that the SNG is at a different price point but maybe its still worth it in regards to the other to? Also by hard use i mean boxes, wood, mainly outdoor backyard or even camp tasks. I know a fixed will be better but thats next on the list.

Let me know what you think, thanks in advanced. I may not post alot but i do appreciate this forum very much

I have the 710 and PM2, and a strong dislike for Strider as a company.

I prefer the 710 to the PM2, the 710 is smaller feeling in the pocket than the PM2 even though the 710 is heavier and has a bigger blade. Hard to go wrong with a 710, unless you hate the recurve so much that the extra sharpening hassle is a deal breaker.

This is a tough one as the three knives you listed a quite different in their design. I only own a 710 and a PM2 from your list, so I can't help with the SNG, but the PM2 very much fill the same void, as far as each making a fantastic EDC knife. For hard use (as it pertains to your description), I really think between the two, it's gonna be close to a wash, with my own experiences making me lean ever so slightly toward the 710. It's got a more stout tip (probably the most important difference between the two), more reach, and the sandwiched liners seem like they could take a little more abuse than the hollowed G-10 and nested liners of the PM2. I have an 806 that I've beat on for years and the AXIS lock is completely rock-solid with no play and no broken springs. My 710 hasn't received quite as much use but the AXIS is as it was on day one and it's about 8 years old now.

So, I'd choose the 710 followed ridiculously close by the PM2. But for the uses you've mentioned, I'd pick a Cold Steel American Lawman (or similar; maybe a Spyderco Manix) before either of those two. Not that those two couldn't perform decently enough for hard use; I'm just tossing out the idea since I own the 710 and PM2 and would probably choose a different design for heavier duty tasks.

im worried about it being difficult to get at the thumb stud on the bm. Obviously the sypderhole would be easier btu do you ever have difficult opening it?

I find mine very easy to open, FWIW.

Don't worry about your $400 knife developing play.
Chances are, with the new lock up, it will not.
And if it did, send it in to Strider and they'll take care of everything.

I would go with the SNG or Para 2.

I own a SNG CC and a SMF lego and I have never had any issues with them. I beat the crap out of my SMF its my work knife. Strider's are made from thick slabs of Ti and thick lumps of high end steels that drives up the cost. I love the AXIS locks just got a new 300sn and I like it. they are always smooth and a very strong lock. ive never had a spring break on them but now that I say it Ill have one break tomorrow. All of my Axis lock knives have a small amount of side to side blade play. It can be adjusted out but then it makes the knife stiff to open and close. Only had one PM2 it was not a bad knife a great slicer but I never liked the handle, ended up giving it away in a drunken stopper one knife at the bar to the bar tender after watching him open boxes with some crap mall ninja junk knife. Now a get some comp drinks from time to time, that said I still want to get one in M390 one of these days. Have you looked at the Houge knives like the EX-01, 03 and 04 they come in 3.5 and 4 inch models and a real nice button lock they are supper smooth. The few hogue knives Ive owned have been the sharpest knives out of the box ive ever seen they come with a polished edge that rivals the edge I get off my wicked edge.

Try a ZT 0200. Just as recently as tonight, I have fallen in love with mine a second time. I don't understand how something that beastly can be so smoooooth.

I own a para 2 and an SnG. they are both great knives, the strider really is like a folding fixed blade. I have only had mine for a few months, but has zero play whatsoever, I really like the knife, but every time I have to use it I always find myself wishing it cut as well as my para does. The 710 and the para 2 are very capable slicers and the SNG is about as stout as you could expect a folding knife to be, they are opposite ends of the spectrum.

With the Axis lock, you really won't find yourself using the thumbstuds all that often. It's easier just to flick the knife open and closed with the lock.

wow i should have searched that first....thanks alot though!

No worries. The search function isn't always as user friendly as people think. I'm still trying to get a better hang of it.

Glad to be able to help.
