Not sure if I can justify

Hi all,

So I have been looking at the Brous Blades Silent Soldier flipper and I am completely sold on the design. The blade screams sexy, and for the types of EDC uses I would put it through I think it would excel.

The big problem I am having is swallowing the price. I own several $200 and $100 blades - but this would probably be the most expensive knife that I would own. I guess I am not really looking for a substitute, but rather for a justification.

For those of you that own the blade, did you find that it was really worth the price paid?

Thanks in advance for the input!

Brous blades are very nice quality and made in smaller batches with good quality control. Many of them are hand sharpened by Jason and the knives are considered somewhere in between production and mid tech. (This is my knowledge and may not be 100% correct so feel free to correct me) I hear a lot of love and hate stories with his company though, usually due to customer service. I prefer a company to have not a 50/50 feedback but a 99-100 percent positive feedback. I do dig his designs though and think they are cool. I have lusted after the division and the reloader. The full ti SS is attractive as well to me.

Knowing very little about Brous Blades, I made a purchase here on the forums from a reputable member. It seemed quite high in price, and I almost immediately regretted it. That lasted until the knife arrived. It was beautiful! It was truly flawless in construction and finish, with a gorgeous carbon fiber handle. It is definitely at the top of quality if a production knife, and even for a mid-tech. Don't flame me, but I put it up there close to a Sebenza, in finish. Now, there are some things that are not ideal, but those are a function of the design of the knife and handle, and that can be a personal preference, so no one will be 100% happy all the time there.

As I have no reason to be worried about customer service, at the moment, I can't answer any questions on that, but for a fairly simple design, I don't forsee any problems.

FYI, I got a Division Flipper in Carbon Fiber; the full-sized version, and this thing's a beast! Only thing I'd consider differently would be to size it down and pick up the smaller Division in CF, when it becomes available. This is all my opinion, and worth what you paid, but I ain't no spring chicken, either.:D

Well, it's not my style, but whatever floats your boat. What's it for?
It's going to be my EDC - even self defense blade in case it ever has to come to that.
Being in an office environment I have really started appreciating deep-pocket-carry knives.

That's part of the hesitation. Online reviews for this particular knife seem VERY mixed.

I feel like that will be my reaction as well, but it is A LOT of $$ for a 2.7" blade.

I had a SS Flipper for a little while. While the quality was there, fit and finish was excellent, the design just didn't jive for me. The combination of short blade and long flipper made it kind of difficult to actually cut things with. I also didn't care for the flipper design or for a tip down flipper for that matter. It was a nice knife but the design is very take it or leave it. I left it. Of course YMMV.

Here's a pic just because:

That seems to be among his shortcomings going back to the Kut Throat Knives days. Often it looks like his designs were never tested by using them to actually cut an object.

Every person has their price limits and only you can justify the price to yourself. The first thing to consider- if you have several other $100 and $200 knives, would you sell enough of them to pay for the new knife?

I know what my limits are through trial and error- I have trouble respecting knives below a certain point, and I am not comfortable carrying knives above a certain point, but other people have no problem carrying a knife 2 or 3 times as expensive as what I will carry.
