Not sure if this is fake or just butchered

Found on the bay...listed as a Desperado. Sheath looks good, so leaning towards butchered. But what's up with the gap in the tang? Anyone seen one with the handle removed?

The gap in the tang could be where the Kraton was supposed to flow in and help hold, that would be my guess. That's not a Nogales clip point and no serrations, so the warning bells are sounding. It's within the realm of possibility that someone took the factory handle off, ground down the serrations, and gave it a nose job. But it is most likely either fake or modded so far out of the original specs that calling it a Desperado is a headscratcher.

I'd have to go by the seller's past record / feedback on this one . Not bad looking ,but no idea if it started out genuine .
