Not White--not Red 124

I have a couple of red micarta 124s. I have seen a few White 124s and they are nearly white. But this one is even slightly more orange than the picture portrays. Anyone have any information on it? I really think it is a beautiful combination. For reasons too detailed to described here, I am satisfied that this is not merely surface discoloration.:confused::confused:

Tele, I'm sure Buck made yellow melime handles which are rare. But Evil Eye Earl knows more about 124's than I do. DM

per a conversation at post falls with Leroy Remer of bucks real custom shop
he did tell me is that some of the white micarta did turn an ivory color exposed to air and sunlight over time as Haebbie's pair showes.
there is a white linen micarta that stays white also...

334Dave is correct with his information. One of the selling points for the white micarta was that it would yellow with age just like Elephant Ivory that had been banned from import. Note not all Elephant Ivory yellows...don't ask me why because I have no idea. Elephant Ivory is very porous and is prone to shrinkage thus can and does often cracked around handle pins (micarta did not shrink/crack like Elephant Ivory).

I put up a few photo's for you to view. The Gerber Paul knife was very white when it was new and did yellow with age; the handle is white micarta. The two AG Russell Baby Bullet knives have Elephant Ivory handles...note these were kept together always and one yellowed and one did not...I sure don't know why.

JB:

That Gerber Paul knife is so close in color (giving some leeway for monitors and cameras) that I am persuaded that my 124 is probably a yellowed white micarta knife. The other comments come close to clinching it. Thank you all for your expertise.:thumbup::thumbup:

I am not a chemist, but I believe the darker yellow comes from the catalyst used in
making the "white" micarta as it goes all the way through the material .
Yellowing of white micarta can been seen in this photo of a 110 and 112.
I have a dark yellow 124 as pictured above and will find the photo.
I had it displayed at the Spirit of Steel show last month.

Here is a white micarta and a "Corian" handled 124.

Here are White, deep Yellow,Corian and some other various handle 124's
I believe the deep yellow is a seperate color.

I Do Not Mean To Disregard The Kind Information Of The Other Members But Even They Seem To Agree That You Are The Resident Sage Of The 124 Genre. You Have Compelled Me To Change My Mind And Conclude That The Yellow 124 Is Truely A Distinct And Separate Color. Not Only Does Your Deep Knowledge Confirm That Fact But The Picture Of Your Yellow 124 (which Is Identical To Mine) Just Plain Caps It.

Now I can retract my prior 99.9% Conclusion set forth above and be 99.99999999999999% certain that my canary headed 124 is legit. Thank You, now I have seen two yellow 124s. And as usual, your pic with the other 124s (I know that it represents a small fraction of your total trove of them) always stirs my blood.

Have you seen many more of the yellow ones?

Thank You Again,:):):)
