Hey guys, first post here, been lurking for a good long time however!!

I recently recieved my first stud lock knife in the form of a brand new Kershaw Spec Bump (absolutely incredible knife although I can't believe I missed the blow out pricing on these... D'oh!!), and have subsequently been playing with it ever since (do ya blame me??)...

I have absolute faith in the strength of the stud lock, however, in a couple positions on the stud itself, it feels like there is a little bump in the flat spot that leads to just the littlest bit of blade play (just enough to overcome the little hump on the stud, I'd say the blade rocks off the hump and settles either way, but is resting on the hump). Is this normal?? I know it's the stud because if I release the lock and rotate it a little the knife locks up solid as a rock, with no wiggle whatsoever (it is just a little movement)... If this is the nature of the beast, awesome, no worries, if not i'd like to have it looked at...

Also, I noticed a dark spot on the tip of the blade, almost like the blade got to hot during sharpening (I'll post a picture once I get home). The spot doesn't bother me, so long as it's just cosmetic, if from the pictures anyone feels it compromises the integrity of the blade I'll have it looked at under warranty...

Many thanks in advance guys, I look forward to really joining the discussion in the near future!!

A few of my knives had had "burn" marks at the tip, I think it's a result of high speed belt sanders used on the thinnest section of the blade that leads it to get a bit hot and have some "burn" marks. I doubt it's a big deal but I'm sure somebody will come with better knowledge on that.
With the stud lock, pictures will help. You could always try a dremel to smooth the hump out if that's the problem. Pictures will help us identify it.

Hi Jack, welcome to the game from off the sidelines. If I were you, I would contact Kershaw Customer Service. The only downside I can think of is that the Spec Bump is no longer being produced so the blade may be hard to come by, but I'm sure that customer service will be able to replace the Stud Lock and fix any problem you may be having. You've got a great knife there. Get her fixed up and enjoy it!

I just sent my Spec Bump in because of blade play. I'll admit that it was a little nitpicky of me, but I felt it was a shame to have blade play in a knife that I've found perfect in every other way. I haven't gotten any word from them, but hopefully they still have the parts.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!!

A_Blade_Aficionado: I do believe we are on the same page regarding the burn mark... If there is one thing I remember from H.S. shop class it was how to leave a burn mark on metal :D

Tony8179 & Tsujigiri: I think thats my plan... It really is a FANTASTIC knife, great ergos, great size, great blade shape, everything is just awesome about it... And while I also feel like I'm being petty, my track record with Kershaw has set me up to feel that this knife can be perfect (as my Boas, Zing, Leek, etc are.) I do feel like they would have studlock related parts available for warranty work as the Offset, and Mini Mojo also use the studlock, however if the issue is found to be related to a liner or the blade itself that could be a different story... Tsujigiri, please keep us posted on your situation, and I will do the same!!

And finally; onto some photos although I dont feel like the issue can be seen as I couldn't see anything under the lens... I think it's something that can be felt instead, when you pinch the blade and hold the handle (typical lock-up test for me, and others from what I've seen/heard) it is possible to wiggle it just the littlest bit...
