I'm a 6 year knife nut and I've schooled myself pretty well on pretty much all of the necessary aspects of knives, I know all of technology most common pocket knives and the 'best' ficed blades for EDC, Bush tasks, and Survival and Preparedness. My question to you fellows, is-
Are there any blades out there either folder or fixed that can excel at all categories? I understand that their are tons of factors such as the blade grind angle, thickness, steel, coating, length, size etc. But imagine if you were to take Mora's finesse, combine it with a Cold Steel's Triad Lock, throw in the pristine of a DPx or something similar, the research and innovation that Emerson's are praised for. And we'll uhh.. what comes close? Explain in vivid details please? I've got a role that needs to be filled because I would like to stop swapping out my Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto, H&K Turmoil, Shrade SCHF14, DPX HEST Folder, Spyderco Tenacious and Manix2LW (Combo Edge), Benchmade Griptilian 550HG, Ontario Rat 2, and Emerson Mini Roadhouse every day and maybe just carry a medium sized folder and a small fixed blade. Something like a DPx HEST fixed blade, along with a SAK or my fully loaded Leatherman WAVE w/bit kit yatta yatta yatta package that should be here any day now
(P.S. I live in Alaska)

No blade can have it all.. Thats kinda the reason people have edc setups.
I like to carry a small fixed blade, does every job I trow at it. The folding knife I carry is just for fun :)

Yep Focusblade nailed it: all knives are a compromise between strength and cutting performance, based on the intended function of the knife.

Personally, I like variety in my knife collection, and I enjoy the delicious agony of trying to choose the knife that will best suit my anticipated cutting needs. I've even begun to carry two......

Damn, I would almost say that the PM2 paired with a fixed blade or Cold Steel would be a perfect set up. Right now, I am trying to 'breakthrough' this act of carrying multiple knives. I think from now on, I am only going to carry my Leatherman WAVE, and my soon to be purchased DPx HEST Original

I would recommend this knife to anyone. My pack knife use to be the ESSE 4, however I recently switched over to this fantastic knife. It is larger than the ESSE 4 but around the same weight (maybe even tad lighter!). That makes it an excellent choice for backpacking - that is, if you want a medium-large knife that doesn't weigh you down. And might I add this knife rugged and built for heavy use.

I havnt found " the perfect knife" yet for me that's what makes this challenging frustrating and most important fun to see everyone edc or little tweaks someone has done. I get to see all sorts of knife that others love that I know will not work for me but they will swear by it lol just as I swear by mine. Good luck Semper Fi

From what you wrote, I'd recommend the DPx you mentioned or perhaps a Grayman Dua. I own both (actually a HEST 2.0 folder and Woodsman fixed blade of the DPx brand) and highly recommend either depending on your budget. Both are among the favorites of all I own.

That HEST original fixed by Rowen is just a Superknife for knockaround carry. One of the best 'all-rounds' out there, period.
