I have older Morseth knives with laminated carbon steel. These are derfinitely not collectible - that is, users only. My built-to-order knives are notched on blade backs forward of hilts to provide purchase for my thumb. The Morseths do not have such notches.
Okay, to my questions. While I can have these purchase notches machined or ground on Morseth blade spines just forward of hilts, will such work cause stress problems or incipient cracking or any other problem for blades' inherent sturdiness and durability?
If there is no obvious problem, is there a preferred configuration for notches, such as concave rather than notches with sharp angles along sides and bottoms?
If there is some reason to avoid notching Morseth blades, what other process would achieve similar utility in safety?
