Notch in the Inkosi spine - what's this for...?

In front of the thumb stud, on the spine of my Inkosi (and on the 25, I believe) there is a small, radiused "notch" about 1/16" deep by 3/16" long. It is almost like a ferro-notch on a fixed blade used for striking a firesteel rod. Is it purely decorative, or does it serve some purpose (leftover from a machining step or something intended in service)? I saw some mention of it on the upcoming Insingo blade, and it now has me wondering what it's for.

Thanks in advance,

IMG_2427.JPG Was wondering the same thing. It's a nice touch and looks good.

The Sebenza 25 Prototype is the only one that doesn't have the notch as a transition area.

The radius is a little tight in that notch for most common firesteels, and the somewhat rounded edge from the stone-washing would not be great for making sparks, but I see why that idea has been tossed around a few times. It's been confirmed by CRK a few times that the notch is a visual design element, not a feature with any purpose for the end user. I hated it at first, but like anything in life, I now really like it and would miss it if it were gone.

You gotta trust the eye of Chris Reeve. The guy is a design genius when it comes to proportion and the right amount of sparsity and/or detail.
