I made up 10 plane blades for a woodworker last week out of A2, a lot of grinding because he wanted the tang fully tapered.
Now I know why so few makers use A2 on a regular basis. The darn stuff hardens right up if you get it too hot while grinding. Give me 440C anytime.
It did come back from heat treating with a great blue grey patina that could be an advantage if someone were to make tactical knives from it.
