I'm looking for a knife.

1. Blade under three inches

2. Nice and light, never know it's there 'till you need it, good for chores like cutting wrapping paper for Christmas

3. Under $40

Something like a CRKT KISS or Spyderco Cricket.

Thanks!

Let me be the first to say Spyderco Delica. Meets your description, a classic.

CRKT Mirage - the fit and finish is way above what you would expect from a $30+ budget folder. Mine opens smooth as glass and locks up nicely with no play. The small 3" version makes a fine gents folder at a great price.

They are selling small CRKT Mirages for $18.95 at the local gunshop here. Probably get them on the net for the same price. That's a lot of knife for the money. I keep one in my office and use it daily for opening boxes and letters. I've had it for over a year and have never sharpened it. I think I paid $28 for mine and thought it was a great deal then.

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

Take a look at the BM 350. It's very slim and light, way stronger than it looks. You don't know it's there but it cuts like nobody's business.

Delica for tip up carry, Calypso Jr if you prefer tip down. Though I believe that with either one you'll have to cough up about another 10 bucks more that what you wanted to spend. The Calypso Jr rides lower in the pocket than the Delica when using the clip.

$40 is what I paid for a stainless Dragonfly with ATS-55 blade. Great little knife.

Umfaan. 1SKS has them on sale for $39.95. Plus $230 shipping.

I'm jumping in here with another vote for the CRKT Mirage.

Very nice knife. Period!!!!

Oh yeah, it's inexpensive too!!! (Notice I said inexpensive.....not cheap)

'Preciate the feedback.

I'm thinking Mirage or Dragonfly right now...what's the difference between a Zytel and stainless steel handle?

Thanks...it seemed cheaper.

I've narrowed things down to four CRKT knives...they're so..."inexpensive".

Anything with a stainless handle will definitely not fit the bill of "light, never know it's there", unless of course you're accustomed to carrying rocks in your pocket. Check out the specs on the ones you're interested in at 1SKS. You'd be suprised the diffrerence one or two ounces of weight or 1/8 inch of thinkness make when it's sitting in the pocket of Dockers or dress slacks. For jeans, it won't matter as much.
