Have been thinking recently about some of the less appreciated brands of recent years. I'm talking mainly about Colonials, Imperials, etc. (and others I may not be aware of) that have proven themselves time and time again for the working man, and that were priced accordingly.

I have a few of these what some consider "lower end" knives that honestly (may sound crazy to some) I would just as soon have with me as any high dollar knife.....they sharpen easliy, hold an edge well and are eager to work...not worried about what you might put them through.

Hopefully some out there will understand what I'm trying to say and will have some pics of their "workers" that they would post, I for one would love to see them.

Show us your favorite under appreciated "brand" knives please....and any "workin" stories associated with them.

Thanks!

Here's an Imperial Cattleman with Rodgers bone scales. I saw one of these a few years back and had to have one of my own. It's a bit more used now. The thin carbon steel blades take a great edge.

That Imperial kicks butt!

Great thread! I love seeing budget priced, quality knives.

As a matter of fact, I have been looking for a Ranger (Imperial) stockman with black composite scales and carbon blades that Walmart sold in a blister pack years back. I always dreamed of getting one as a young man, but the $5.96 price tag was just too rich for me!:D

That Imperial Cattleman is a beauty!

Love 'em, these type knives do my heart good......workers each and every one!!!

Please keep them coming.

Here’s a couple more, this time two base-model Queens – a (faux-winterbottom) "Forest Edge" Canoe and an aluminum-handled #45f “Big Chief” -- both with D2 blades.

Very nice ones guys, I'm lovin' these beauties.......ones that "back in the day", the workin' man could afford, and used.

This is about 3/4 of my current collection minus the safe queen slippies and tactical folders from the last 12 months or so. Plenty of old, very used knives form Imperial, Queen, Western, Utica, Schrade, Buck, Case, Boker, KK, Kutmaster, Iroquois, Ulster, etc...

This little Colonial Hobo gets a ton of use. The blades on these "cheap" knives are a dream to sharpen and they are just fun knives to own.

Thanks.

I have never figured out who made that hawkbill, but its a fine knife that does what I ask of it.

A folksy friend sent me this great ol' Ranger after reading my previous post. This is a super old "cheapy." It brings back a bunch of great memories -hunting, hiking and whittling with my uncle. Thanks, Keith! I love this forum.

kamakong that Imperial is a nice quality piece.Heres one like it.the guy that owned it put a piece of walnut in where the bone chipped.

And a couple of tin handles. The latter was in a free pile after a yard sale I picked up while jogging by.
