I was looking forward so much to the NECKA hammer-in, and our most-important press went down. Naturally, the faulty part is one that requires an intense amount of time to even remove from the machine, let alone repair. As luck would have it, this particular component was beyond repair, having been repaired (quite poorly, too) several times before. Just to kick the whole thing up a notch, its 7:30 PM on a Friday night and the normal channels are all shut down. I had to call in a favor to the owner of a company in CT that deals with this machine. He agreed to meet me on Saturday morning (this morning, and let me have the part.

My boss, saint and jackass at the same time, totally took control of that part of it. He drove down to Hartford and met my friend for the part and drove it back up here for me to install, while he hovered over me like a fretful mother hen. To make a long story short, a simple but unavoidable work problem kept me from going to IG's house and seeing all my forum knifemaker pals and I am sad.

This sounds like a rant and it sort of is, but in reality I'm only a part-time maker and a full-time mechanic. Sorry that I couldn't be there, guys. :(

Jeff, Sorry to hear about work, thats a bummer. The hammerin was a blast, lots of cool stuff going on at the same time, hard to keep up with it all. The cutting comp. was won by David Sylvester of Quebec with a blade he forged from an old corvette leaf spring. It was great to meet alot of the folks from the board and be able to put a face to the names. Gotta give thanks to I.G. for hosting and all the work he put into it and all the guys that put on demos. Wish you could have made it,

Rick
